Flora House is looking for an enthusiastic person interested in an exciting opportunity to work with kids, be active, and learn new skills. Flora House is an Indigenous children’s after-school program, designed to mirror the land-based teachings of Indigenous peoples based on the four seasons, incorporating language, traditional knowledge, and current technology, in a learning-through-play style activity-based program. We use academic strategies and positive reinforcement techniques to encourage kids to get involved, try new things, and explore their unique cultures. After-school programming runes September through June, with the opportunity for summer daytime hours pending summer camp funding.

No prior education is required, though a background in recreation and/or Indigenous studies is ideal. Excellent attendance and a willingness to participate in a team environment and practice these techniques is important for this role. Interest in working with Elders, knowledge keepers, and running Indigenous-focused programming is an asset.

**Responsibilities and Duties**:

- Participate in using the Flora House training and education behavioural management resources to help create a nurturing and structured environment
- Use emotional regulation strategies for behavioural management
- Reinforce a culture of safety
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and safety standards
- Must be able to lift 25lbs

**About us**

The Flora House After School Program has been around for over 40 years and is currently undergoing many positive changes. The program provides the participants, along with their families, with quality care, a fun open learning environment, and relationship-building experiences for youth aged 6-13. The Activity Facilitator will be responsible for attending the shuttling of students to and from the program, facilitating programming for participants, and engaging with Flora House staff to create ongoing activities for our students.

**Job Types**: Part-time, Seasonal
Contract length: 10 months

Pay: $16.00-$20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 8 - 30 per week
