Manager, Development Planning

The ideal candidate for this position will have the following:
- Bachelor's degree in planning, Development Planning and/or Safety Codes or a related discipline.
- Membership in the Alberta Development Officer Association or Canadian Institute of Planners, certificate as a Registered Professional Planner or certification in a Safety Codes discipline would be considered an asset.
- A minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of experience with the ability to exercise judgement and discretion to make decisions on difficult and complex development permit applications, appropriate recommendations to Council, SDAB, and senior leadership, while working independently in interpreting policy and legislation, and directing staff.
- Exceptional working knowledge of the Municipal Government Act, the Subdivision and Development Regulation and other relevant legislation.
- Knowledge of Safety Codes requirements, regulations and legislations with a sound understanding of planning law and land use enforcement.
- Must possess progressive leadership experience directly supervising staff and projects while also demonstrating superior interpersonal skills in dealing effectively with general public on sensitive matters, direct reports, community partners, elected officials and senior leadership.
- Excellent writing, presentation, negotiation, organization and time-management skills as well as strong computer skills, using Microsoft Office and other related applications.
- Possession of a valid class 5 driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
The total rewards package for this position includes:
A starting annual salary of $120,500 to $135,500, with a maximum earning potential for this pay range of $152,400, based on a 35-hour work week and option to join the Earned Day Off Program.
In addition, extended health and dental benefits, access to our confidential Employee and Family Assistance Program, paid sick time, three (3) weeks vacation a year with your birthday off, additional five (5) paid days off for Management days in lieu of overtime, flexible work arrangements allowing remote work options (based on position's needs), and personal days are offered.
