We are excited to welcome a new member to our team by adding an Intermediate Accountant to our Finance Department. Reporting to the Controller, this opportunity is for a hands-on Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) who is proactive at finding ways to improve the services of the accounting team, curious about finding answers via effective analysis, and motivated to make a positive contribution to a growing company in an industry poised for expansion.

Key responsibilities

- Prepare specialized reports and analysis including detailed revenue analysis.
- Prepare a multitude of reports for financial, tax, and regulatory purposes.
- Examine assigned accounting documents to verify accuracy of computations and uniform application of policies, procedures, and acceptable accounting principles.
- Prepare account reconciliations.
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements in accordance with Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE).
- Analyze revenue and explain variances between current month, prior month, and forecast.
- Perform routine to moderate journal entries and other accounting activities using existing procedures and practical knowledge gained from experience.
- Mentor and support Product Accountant and Project Accountant.
- Assist Controller with month-end financial reports for multiple companies.
- Assist Controller with yearend working papers.
- Facilitate annual insurance renewals.
- File monthly HST return and reconcile accounts.
- Plan, set up and prepare financial analysis for individuals and departments within PEER Group.
- Assist with preparation of annual business forecast.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
- Complete special projects as required.

Skills and experience

- University degree in accounting, business administration, or related field.
- 3-5 years of accounting experience in a progressive capacity; supervisory experience is an asset.
- Thorough knowledge of accounting best practices and ASPE.
- Advanced computer and MS Excel skills including experience with PIVOTS, LOOKUPS, macros, conditional formatting, and manipulation of large amounts of data.
- Knowledge of GP Dynamics and Management Reporter or other accounting systems is highly desired.
- Work experience with Financial Reporting, Management Accounting, and Taxation.
- Previous experience with accounting systems implementation and/or integration is a definite asset.
- Act ethically and demonstrate professional values.
- Proficient written and verbal communication.
- Demonstrated analytical skills.
