After School Support – LTO – 10 hrs per week Sandhills

The Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) serves approximately 65,000 students and is seeking Before and After School Support (B.A.S.S.) employees. B.A.S.S. employees work alongside a Designated Early Childhood Educator (DECE) to support play‑based programming for students in junior kindergarten to grade 6 who are registered in the board’s Before and After School Program.

Responsibilities

- Follow the guidance of the DECE and support play‑based programming for students.

- Support positive, responsive interactions among children, parents, child care providers, and staff.

- Encourage children to interact, communicate, and self‑regulate in a positive manner.

- Support children’s exploration, play, and inquiry, including child‑initiated and adult‑supported experiences.

- Create inclusive learning environments that respect all children, including those with individualized plans.

- Promote indoor and outdoor play, active play, rest, and quiet time, accommodating each child’s needs.

- Maintain ongoing communication with parents about the program and their children.

- Follow licensing requirements under the Child Care and Early Years Act.

- Adopt an anti‑oppressive, anti‑racist, and inclusive culture where all children feel seen, heard, and respected.

- Ensure health, safety, nutrition, and well‑being of children by following Public Health, First Aid, and Emergency procedures.

Qualifications

- Hold a minimum of a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent educational attainment.

- Prior experience supervising and supporting children in a positive and safe manner.

- Valid First Aid with CPR Level C/AED (or willingness to obtain training).

- Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) current within 5 years if currently employed with WRDSB; new employees must have a PVSC within 6 months.

- Complete all Licensed Child Care Staff record requirements, including Region of Waterloo Public Health, Health Assessment, and relevant documentation.

- Provide satisfactory Criminal Background Check including the Vulnerable Sector before commencement of employment.
