Job Description

Exciting news to share: The Medical Device Reprocessing Technician Training Program is being offered through Island Health. Start date is May 06, 2024, and will run until approximately October 04, 2024. The program combines online curriculum through VIU and clinical practicum at Island Health Sites.

What you need to know:

- Are you an Island Health employee under the Facilities Bargaining Agreement (FBA) looking to further your career with Island Health?
- Island Health is offering an employer-sponsored education program to join our Medical Device Reprocessing team.
- This program is full-time employer-paid. All tuition, fees, and costs of necessary books are paid for on behalf of the participants. Students enrolled in the program will also receive a weekly stipend.
- Available to all existing Island Health FBA employees.
- Our Medical Device Reprocessing Technicians work closely with the RNs and support staff to ensure instruments and equipment are ready for use when needed.
- Our perioperative units are state of the art, allowing our multidisciplinary teams to provide a comprehensive array of services across Vancouver Island, with the Operating Room and Endoscopy department being our largest customers.
- Successful participants are required to complete a six-month return of service period (ROS period) working as a MDRT at Island Health.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training And Experience

Grade 12 (or acceptable equivalent); Grade 12 English with C or better or assessment by VIU; Completion of Medical Terminology (OSME002) or equivalent.

Skills And Abilities

Successful applicants must meet the following pre-requisites: Medical Terminology certificate, Interpersonal and Employment Skills training, and a high school transcript to prove that they have completed grade 12 including a minimum C in English.
