Salary: $42.40 per hour (approx. $77,162.74 per annum), 35 hours/week

Settlement Allowance: $20,907.43 per annum

Responsibilities

The Health and Safety Training Officer reports to the Occupational Health and Safety Manager and is responsible for:

- Designing, developing, and delivering comprehensive health and safety training programs across the organization.

- Providing reports to the Health and Safety Manager and maintaining training records.

- Ensuring employees, contractors, and vendors are educated on workplace safety protocols, regulatory compliance, and emergency procedures.

- Evaluating the effectiveness of training programs, auditing performance, and implementing improvements.

- Conducting inspections, completing required departmental documentation, and submitting reports to WSCC.

Minimum Education and Experience

- Bachelor’s degree or College Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Education, Training and Development, or a related field.

- Or a diploma or certification in Occupational Health and Safety with extensive training and instructional experience.

- 2 years of experience in developing and delivering health and safety training, preferably in a municipal, public sector, or industrial environment.

- Experience designing and delivering both in‑person and virtual training programs.

- Experience with training compliance and certification management.

- Experience in developing and implementing health and safety programs, including SOPs, policies, and training.

Assets

- Experience in the municipal or public sector, particularly in a training or safety‑focused role.

- Proficiency in developing e‑learning modules or experience with Learning Management Systems for tracking training.

- Experience in emergency response training or crisis management training.

- Bilingual or multilingual abilities can be an asset.

Certifications (preferred)

- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST), NCSO, or similar.

- Train‑the‑Trainer certification or equivalent experience in instructional design.

- First Aid, CPR, AED Certification required.

- Additional relevant certifications in safety training, e.g., WHMIS Instructor or OSHA Outreach Trainer.

Additional Requirements

- Canadian Citizenship or Landed Immigrant Status.

- Clear Criminal and Vulnerable Sectors Record Check (every 3 years by RCMP).

- Ability to communicate in English, both written and oral.
