Title: Health and Safety Training Officer Department: Operations and Protective Services Status: Full‑time permanent Salary: $42.40 per hour (approx. $77,162.74 per annum), 35 hours/week Settlement Allowance: $20,907.43 per annum Union Status: Unionised Position Closing Date: OPEN UNTIL FILLED Responsibilities The Health and Safety Training Officer reports to the Occupational Health and Safety Manager and is responsible for: Designing, developing, and delivering comprehensive health and safety training programs across the organization. Providing reports to the Health and Safety Manager and maintaining training records. Ensuring employees, contractors, and vendors are educated on workplace safety protocols, regulatory compliance, and emergency procedures. Evaluating the effectiveness of training programs, auditing performance, and implementing improvements. Conducting inspections, completing required departmental documentation, and submitting reports to WSCC. Minimum Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree or College Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Education, Training and Development, or a related field. Or a diploma or certification in Occupational Health and Safety with extensive training and instructional experience. 2 years of experience in developing and delivering health and safety training, preferably in a municipal, public sector, or industrial environment. Experience designing and delivering both in‑person and virtual training programs. Experience with training compliance and certification management. Experience in developing and implementing health and safety programs, including SOPs, policies, and training. Assets Experience in the municipal or public sector, particularly in a training or safety‑focused role. Proficiency in developing e‑learning modules or experience with Learning Management Systems for tracking training. Experience in emergency response training or crisis management training. Bilingual or multilingual abilities can be an asset. Certifications (preferred) Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST), NCSO, or similar. Train‑the‑Trainer certification or equivalent experience in instructional design. First Aid, CPR, AED Certification required. Additional relevant certifications in safety training, e.g., WHMIS Instructor or OSHA Outreach Trainer. Additional Requirements Canadian Citizenship or Landed Immigrant Status. Clear Criminal and Vulnerable Sectors Record Check (every 3 years by RCMP). Ability to communicate in English, both written and oral.
