**ABOUT US**

The York University Co-operative Daycare Centre (YUCDC) is situated on the Keele Campus of York University. YUCDC’s mission is to support and foster an inclusive learning environment for the children in our care, and to engage them within the community at large, with the goal of instilling in the children respect and appreciation in themselves and in their communities. We work with community partners to provide our children with a safe and stimulating early learning experience that acknowledges and celebrates the histories, heritage and the diversity of our Indigenous peoples and the diverse cultures in Canada.

**ABOUT THE ROLE**

In accordance with the Childcare and Early Years Act, the Assessment for Quality Improvement tool for the City of Toronto, and the regulations and procedures of other legislative bodies and the Policies and Procedures for the YUCDC, the **Manager of Childcare Operations** is responsible to support the Director with the administration, management, and operation of the Centre. He/she/them is responsible for the operation of the Centre in the absence of the Director.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**

**Overall**
- Maintains a safe, healthy, and welcoming learning environment for children and their families.
- Establishes, maintains, and acts as a resource for parents and families. Respond to concerns, inquiries, requests for information made in person, or electronic communication.
- Knowledgeable, informed, and current on early childhood learning philosophies and best practices.
- Participates as a team member in the supervision, safety, and well-being of the children, families, and staff.
- Share in the responsibility in the operation of the Centre by maintaining regular and open communication with the staffing team, community, and governing partners.
- Participates in continuous professional development and attends all mandatory training.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Director.

**Child and Program Management**
- Encourages and supports parent and community involvement.
- Provides learning opportunities to support development, language, and cultural experiences.
- Establishes routines and provides positive guidance.
- Works with agencies to support the staff with the developmental needs of children.
- Ensure that all pertinent information is documented in the children’s files.
- Analyzes and revises operating policies and practices to improve efficiency.
- Assists the team in conducting mock Quality Improvement Assessments.
- Works with the Centre’s Program Supervisors to review and sign off on weekly program plans.

Staff Management
- Ensures that all staff work as members of a team, have input into planning and have opportunities for improving their professional skills.
- Prepare staff schedules.
- Tracks staff absences and provides coverage for absent staff, supply in a classroom if necessary.
- Hires and orientates staff to the Centre’s Policies and Procedures.
- Supervises, coaches, trains, and empowers staff, specifically with regards to problem solving.
- Plans and participates in monthly Program Supervisor and Room Meetings.
- Assists with the planning and participation in quarterly Staff Meetings.
- Models appropriate team teaching and communication techniques.
- Participates in the supervision, training and mentoring of students and volunteers.
- Supports program staff during the evaluation process of student teachers when required.

**Health and Safety**
- Ensures monthly Workplace Health and Safety Inspections are conducted and assists the representatives in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment by promptly reporting and addressing any existing and/or potential workplace hazards.
- Ensures all Emergency Information is current, posted and/or stored as required.
- Facilitates and participates in monthly fire drills and evacuations.
- Ensures equipment and the childcare facility are clean, well maintained, and safe at all times.
- Assists in keeping daily reports of children’s sleep charts, medications, and accidents.
- Report serious occurrences to the Director of Childcare Operations.
- Performs emergency first aid as required.

**Communication**
- Maintains and builds strong, healthy, professional relationships with the staff, parents, the University Community and Governing Partners.
- Responds to parent inquiries regarding children’s progress while maintaining confidentiality.
- Encourages parents to actively participate in the operation of the Centre.
- Assists and participates in planning of parent nights and special events.
- Liaises with members of the University Community about issues of mutual concern.
- Ensures all pertinent information is distributed to the parents and staff.
