Manager, Technical Resources

Reporting to the Director, Retube, Inspection and Maintenance Systems (RIMS), the Manager, Technical Resources will support the objectives of the RIMS division by providing functional management and leadership to department staff. This role will also provide technical guidance on mechanical engineering technology related aspects of work performed by RIMS personnel. The Manager, Technical Resources is responsible for performance management of the department staff and ensuring their continued technical and career development goals are met to satisfy the operational objectives of the RIMS division.
**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Support the objectives of the Retube, Inspection and Maintenance Systems Division.
- Manage and coach staff performance, with a focus on reward and recognition, team and individual accountability, and career development.
- Manage project resource demand forecasting for RIMS to ensure project teams have qualified and proficient technical staff.
- Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for common training courses related to department requirements.
- Support department staff with the preparation and implementation of individual development plans to facilitate career development.
- Implement strategic initiatives to improve business unit, division, and/or department performance.
- Own and implement departmental action plans.
- Ensure that procedures and objectives are communicated and understood by the department; and that staff perform in accordance with those procedures.
- Provide technical guidance and support to projects for troubleshooting and modifications of equipment/tooling.
- Support business development activities by providing input to proposals, schedules, and cost estimates.
- Interface with customers, both internal and external, to foster and build relationships.
- Communicate routinely with staff, promote three-way communication, and work to surface and resolve employee concerns.

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES**

- Broad knowledge in the areas of mechanical technology including design, assembly, and testing including emerging technologies within the industry.
- Working knowledge of the applicable standards related to mechanical engineering technology.
- Familiarity with applicable nuclear quality assurance standards, quality management principles, policies, and procedures.
- Possess initiative, resourcefulness, and a positive attitude, and ability to thrive in a dynamic work environment.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
- A degree or diploma from a recognized university or college in Mechanical Engineering or from a college of trades in a related field.
- 5 to10 years of combined technical, supervisory, and management experience.
- Good understanding of nuclear electro-mechanical systems used for inspection and maintenance.
- Previous experience in retube, maintenance, and inspection campaigns at a CANDU site is an asset.
**SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Manage and lead a team of 60+ technical staff.
- Manage resource levels to meet forecasted requirements.
- Performance manage department staff, including goal setting, performance evaluations, career development and implementation of individual development plans, disciplinary and promotion actions in accordance with a collective bargaining agreement.
- Engage in talent reviews and succession plans
- Provide regular observation, coaching, performance feedback.
**OTHER ASPECTS**
- Security Clearance is a condition of employment.
- Work within flexible time frames to respond to urgent service issues that may arise at domestic and international CANDU sites
- Knowledge of (and network within) key customers (OPG, Bruce Power) is an asset
- Experience working in a unionized environment is an asset
