The Research and Development unit works to enable, manage, and promote the creation and dissemination of relevant research and learning materials addressing important management issues that are faced by leaders who act thoughtfully and with compassion to build better communities locally and globally.

**Education**:
- Undergraduate degree in a related discipline
- Master’s degree related to data analysis or writing is preferred
**Experience**:
- 2 years’ experience in research administration in an academic environment
- Experience coordinating the logistics of specialized programs, services and events would be an asset
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Familiarity with regulations and guidelines governing research ethics in an academic environment and with best practices for reviewing and writing grant proposals
- Ability to ensure expenditures and resources are within allotments, and to make appropriate modifications when required
- Project management skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously from conception to completion within tightly prescribed timelines
- Familiarity with techniques for updating, managing and extracting data from a research database
- Ability to collaborate across internal and external boundaries to meet common objectives, improve outcomes and support work beyond one's own unit
- Verbal communication skills to clearly express ideas in an objective manner, and adapt communication style to suit the situation and audience
- Communication skills with an ability to complete detailed analytics and reports
- Ability to work in a manner that models best practices in confidentiality standards
- Attention to detail and proofreading abilities with an excellent command of the English language
- Ability to work within a flexible schedule to accommodate the University’s events and activities
- Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite and previous experience using Peoplesoft, WREM, ROLA, Qualtrics, the Adobe suite, multi-media design, Umbraco, Cascade preferred
- Knowledge of web accessibility standards, programming security practices and browser/device website compatibility and optimization
- Ability to independently study technologies and coding techniques identified by project leads or required by project implementations
- Fundamental knowledge of relational databases and knowledge of SQL best practices, integration, and optimization
- Interpersonal skills to liaise with prospective and current students, staff, faculty and other members of the Western community
- Ability to plan and manage events of various sizes; familiarity with large scale events an asset
- Ability to effectively present information, and conduct training sessions and workshops
- Ability to investigate defined issues, solicit input, and suggest remedies and alternative approaches that meet the needs of the situation
- Proven ability and natural inclination to develop relationships by interacting with people in a professional, respectful and diplomatic manner
- Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
- Familiarity with University research policies and practices
