**Duties**:
This position has both an instructional component and a non-instructional component. The duties of these components are outlined below.

The AUBP Chair (non-instructional) will work with members of the ACP Faculty, VIU Elders, Office of Indigenous Education and Engagement, other members of the VIU community, and representatives from various Indigenous community agencies and groups to plan for growth, enhance program delivery in community and at VIU, and build a strong AUBP team. This includes ensuring the design, development, and maintenance of the AUBP program is meeting the needs of Indigenous students and their communities.

The Chair will work closely with faculty to build the team, maintain high academic standards and foster student success; ensure program consistency across campuses and region; assist with instructional postings, selection and orientation of employees; respond to student issues in collaboration with other ACP Chairs and ACP Advisors; liaise and problem solve with instructors and with relevant departments on campus; contribute to the student intake and assessment process; assist VIU University Relations with initiatives to promote AUBP and recruit students; provide/create calendar information; actively promote AUBP program within the University and in community; liaise with community agencies to promote and develop AUBP initiatives; establish and maintain relationships with local Indigenous communities; assist the Dean to develop and maintain agreements with affiliated off-campus and contracted programs; participate in department planning; write grant proposals to support program initiatives; facilitate and participate in staff, departmental, and Faculty meetings as required; ensure accuracy of statistical information and assist in program assessment and review; liaise with Dean's office on matters pertaining to program budget.

The instructor will prepare course materials; provide individual and group instruction using a holistic approach; provide student support; design and implement student evaluation, grading, and record keeping; liaise with ACP Advisors, and participate as an active member of the instructional faculty. Course delivery may be face-to-face, remote, or blended. Instructor needs to be prepared to teach in any or all of these modalities and must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning, and student success.

**Required Qualifications**:
Master's degree in a relevant field from an appropriately accredited institution. Experience teaching adult education, particularly with Indigenous students. Strong working knowledge of Vancouver Island University's Academic, Career and Vocational Programs. Student-centered and culturally relevant approach to instruction and program delivery.

Knowledge of, and the ability to access, institutional resources. Familiarity with VIU's courses and programs. Responsive to diverse cultural and academic backgrounds of adult upgrading and student populations.

Respect for cultural sensitivity and Indigenous ways of knowing and being; proven relationship building skills utilizing respect, reciprocity, creativity, collaboration and innovation to engage others with authenticity and trust.

Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record.

**Preferred Qualifications**:
Extensive knowledge and experience related to working in Indigenous communities. Successful history of grant writing, particularly in relation to Indigenous issues. Hold a PLA Advisor certificate and/or have undertaken a personal portfolio process of their own.
