**Your Opportunity**:
Reporting to the Manager of Flood Forecasting & Operations, the Flood Operations Technician will:

- Carry out regular inspections of flood operations systems, complete minor electrical and mechanical repairs and maintenance of equipment, control buildings and ancillary structures, and supervise specialty service contractors
- Undertake routine dam operations and assist with flood response activities, site observations, reporting and troubleshooting
- Undertake routine maintenance of CH owned flood conveyance channels including vegetation management, hazard tree removals, and fence repairs, and assist with the coordination of external speciality contractors as required
- Support the continued development of new technologies, equipment, procedures, and protocols associated with the operations and maintenance of CH owned flood infrastructure
- Complete required tasks as directed to support the delivery of capital projects relating to flood control infrastructure (flood control reservoirs and channels) including the collection of detailed field measurements, site observations and related background data
- Assist with design, fabrication and development of technical specifications and implementation of custom hydrometric monitoring stations used for Flood Forecasting & Warning
- Support the preparation and maintenance of summary reports and key documents including Dam Operation, Maintenance & Surveillance (OMS) manuals, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other related guidelines and procedures
- Assist with internal training initiatives for CH staff as well preparation of presentations and workshops with external watershed partners
- Participate in required training, workshops, and preparedness exercises as required
- Carry out other duties as assigned

**Your Qualifications**:

- Diploma or Degree from an accredited College or University in Water Resources Engineering, Environmental Sciences or Earth Sciences with background knowledge of watershed hydrology, river hydraulics and dam operations (gates, valves, stoplogs, spillways, channels, etc.) would be considered an asset
- Basic understanding of engineering principals related to hydrology, hydraulics, environmental monitoring and land and water surveying
- Knowledge related to electrical and mechanical systems, welding, metal fabrication techniques and maintenance of field monitoring equipment
- Experience working with power tools and heavy equipment (i.e. backhoe, excavator, skid steer)
- Knowledge of MS Office Suite including Word and Excel
- Valid Ontario Drivers License and ability to acquire a Conservation Halton Driver’s Certificate
- Strong problem solving, analytical, organizational, and collaboration skills
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral) and networking skills to liaise with other internal departments as well as external watershed partners
- Willing to work flexible hours involved in the operation of flood control structures based on weather and watershed conditions
- Ability to work outdoors in a variety of conditions and adapt to the daily challenges associated with a busy work environment
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and individually with direct supervision
