**Job Summary**:
To provide supervision in the operational activities of equipment maintenance for Solid Waste Management within the Transfer Processing & Disposal Operations Unit.

**Major Responsibilities**:

- Implements detailed plans and recommends policies/procedures regarding program specific requirements.
- Supervises, motivates and trains staff, ensuring effective teamwork, high standards of quality and organizational performance, continuous learning and encourages innovation in others.
- Supervises the day to day operation of all assigned staff including the scheduling, assigning and reviewing of work.
- Ensures that unit activities are in compliance with applicable codes Provincial/Municipal legislation/code, City Bylaws departmental standards and SWM Senior Management.
- Authorizes and coordinates vacation and overtime requests. Monitors and evaluates staff performance, hears grievances and recommends disciplinary action when necessary.
- Implements detailed plans and recommends policies/procedures regarding program specific requirements.
- Provides input into and administers assigned budget, ensuring that expenditures are controlled and maintained within approved budget limitations.
- Plans, directs and supervises activities of employees regarding electrical, electronics, instrumentation, communication equipment & switchgears at the transfer stations, collection yards, material recovery facilities and former landfill sites.
- Utilizes Works Managements System (WMS) for planning, scheduling, tracking work history of labour, materials cost and equipment.
- Ensures that machinery and equipment are operational and maintained with minimum downtime; coordinates with plant supervisors/associated staff, the scheduled shut down for equipment/machinery maintenance.
- Services/maintains High Voltage Substations and Motor Control Centre (MCC) at all transfer stations, collection yards and former landfill sites and ensures that the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) standards are maintained.
- Analyses equipment breakdown, Implements and monitors the Preventative Maintenance Programs prepares records regarding same, audit and track the life cycle of all electrical/electronic systems/equipment in preparation for annual budget. Maintains energy management; tracks energy use on machinery/equipment; adjusts as necessary for maintenance or suggest replacement for energy efficiency.
- Ensures appropriate training are available for staff on, equipment, Personal protective Equipment (PPE), Hazards, Safe Working Procedures (SWP) and standards are adhered.
- Conducts on-site visits for observations of Landfill Flare Systems; inspects equipment for various checks and/or tests as required.
- Participates in the identification of major capital projects. Provides input into project execution from an operational perspective.
- Responds to inquiries/complaints from senior staff, project stakeholders, union staff and the public and takes appropriate action to resolve unsatisfactory situations.
- Leads employees, sub-contractors and suppliers through construction and maintenance projects; reviews safety and work practices. Provide technical support for in-house capital works projects.
- Executes new electrical construction and estimates/orders materials from engineering drawings.
- Works with Purchasing Materials Management Division, Legal Services and other operating Divisions to develop Request for Proposals, Quotations and/or Tender documents, to procure design, services contracts and makes recommendations for award of contracts. Assists in the negotiation and execution of contracts as they relate to electrical work.
- Responds to unscheduled maintenance requirements and emergency situations.
- May be required to work shifts, weekends, overtime and holidays.

**Key Qualifications**
- Post-secondary education or trades license in a discipline pertinent to the job function or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must possess and be able to maintain a current Certificate of Qualification as an Industrial Electrician 442A or as a Construction and Maintenance Electrician 309A in accordance with the Regulations enforced in the Province of Ontario.
