**Some Typical Duties**:
- Under the general supervision of the Manager, Technical Services, provides original technical instruction to support the Interaction Design curriculum and assists students, staff, and faculty to develop and articulate technical skills in support of the curriculum.
- Demonstrates the appropriate use of materials, tools and equipment associated with physical computing and digital prototyping with an emphasis on safety. Maintains safety standards in area, including WHMIS labeling, WorkSafeBC documentation, and communication of best practices to those working in prototyping areas.
- Monitors and maintains interaction design lab, studio areas and classrooms to ensure they are in operational condition. Follows up to solve problems with appropriate faculty or department.
- Monitors equipment use, ensuring it is in proper working condition. Troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment problems and performs regular maintenance according to manufacturers’ standards. Performs minor repairs when appropriate. Liaises with Facilities, suppliers and repair firms to resolve equipment problems.
- Monitors the area operating budget. Coordinates purchasing of supplies, equipment, and products for all areas. Participates in the capital request process through recommendations of new equipment purchases. Consults with facility users to maintain relevant, high quality equipment and resources.
- Forecasts student usage and adjusts Interaction lab capacity accordingly. Makes recommendations for policies, procedures, safety measures, studio use, and staffing.
- Establishes relationships with the community and similar institutions for collaborative opportunities.
- Responsible for hiring, training, supervising, and providing day to day direction of Research Assistants and Student Monitors as needed.
- Schedules and promotes external demonstrations for new software and equipment.
- Attends department meetings, presenting information as requested.
- Stays current in the developments and changes in the area, and adapts knowledge and skills to fit current best practices and professional standards.
- Performs other duties as required.
**Required Qualifications**
- Bachelor’s degree in a related design/computing field.
- Minimum three years’ experience in a comparable technical position, preferably in a post-secondary institution.
- Or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Demonstrated experience designing for web technology, creative programming, interaction design software, and digital prototyping processes and tools.
- Familiarity with UX prototyping and testing methodologies and philosophies such as HCD.
- Demonstrated experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript.
- Knowledge of physical computing, embedded electronics and smart objects like Arduino and RaspberryPi.
- Functional knowledge of 3D Modeling TinkerCAD, Blender, Modo and Rhino.
- Functional knowledge of projection mapping tools such as Resolume Arena 4.
- Experience working with data visualization tools like Tableau, Processing and D3.
- Experience with software management, including troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, and recommendations for new tools.
- Considerable knowledge of budget administration, purchasing, and planning.
- Demonstrated experience developing and delivering technical instruction, with attention paid to strategies for overcoming class, race, and gender gaps in technological literacy.
- Demonstrated experience supervising.
- Ability to make independent decisions within policies and guidelines.
- Ability to clearly communicate information and demonstrate the use of equipment to non-technical users in support of an open inclusive learning environment.
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and faculty.
- Considerable knowledge of budget administration, purchasing, and planning.
- Physical stamina and mobility to permit lifting, carrying, and moving heavy objects.
