Front Desk Receptionist

Hair salon receptionists are the primary point of contact for clients and it is up to them to ensure that a high level of
service is provided and that clients leave the salon happy. Work duties of a hair salon receptionist include greeting
clients, providing them with information, scheduling appointments and ensuring that clients have received the
services that they have asked for.
Receptionist Duties and Expectations
- Greet clients as they step into the salon; take their enquiries and make them feel comfortable while they
wait to be attended to; and schedule appointments for clients with hair stylists.
- Offer clients some refreshments as they wait for their turn to be attended to, and offer them magazines to
read.
- Answer phone
- Determine clients’ needs for hair cutting and styling and suggest possible solutions
- Be very knowledgeable about various hair care products and give clients useful advice about the products ifthey seek your opinion.
- Check products in the salon to ensure that they are not out of stock, and inform management of products in
shortage in order for them to place orders for more supplies.
- Maintain knowledge of industry trends and popular hairstyling techniques to keep updated with current
fashions
- Schedule appointments and ensure that any cancellations or readjustments are taken care of
- Make follow up calls to clients to remind them of their appointments
- Determine which hair stylist will be suitable for a client in question
- Ensure that hair stylists understands what clients want to have done with their hair
- Take and record clients’ contact information and any other important information in the salon database
- Operate the cash register, take payments for services rendered and issue change and receipts
- Ensure that the cash drawer or register is balanced at the end of the day
- Maintain positive work relationships with vendors to ensure that sufficient salon supplies are available
- Handle hair salon supplies and equipment inventory activities
- Endorse retail products that the salon is selling by providing information of benefits
- Count cash at the end of the shift and ensure that cash flow information has been logged into the salon’s
register.
- Keep the front desk clutter free and make sure the reception area is tidy. Windex any fingerprints that are
on the desk, tidy magazines, etc.
- Excellent personal/social skills when dealing with vendors, customers, coworkers, and Owners. This
includes not discussing any internal business or personal issues in front of customers or with staff.
- Flexible. Able to adapt to sudden changes throughout the day.
- Freely and openly take direction from Owners.
- Sell - in person and over the phone. This includes up-selling.

- Exhibit good human relations skills
- Ability to resolve issues amicably, especially with clients.
- Good organization skills.
- Have a good temperament.
**Job Type**: Part-time
Expected hours: 10 - 30 per week
