**Job Summary**

Reporting to the Case Manager, the Support Worker Child and Youth participate care to children/youth with moderate to severe behavioural needs in an Emergency care residential setting. Clients are coming and staying for a maximum 30 days and getting stabilized there. The Support Worker Child and Youth assists clients to undertake a variety of activities including programming for clients, implementing client service plan goals and objectives and assists in maintaining the overall functions of the residential program including housekeeping and health and safety protocols.

The Support Worker Child and Youth Takes direction from the Case Manager in providing direct services to the client and safe and healthy operation of the program. If necessary, the Support Worker Child and Youth participate in integrated case management and professional and community liaison. They get paid based on the latest Social Services Collective Bargaining Agreement we have with BCGEU.

**Education & Experience**
- Requires completion of a diploma in a related human / social services
- Minimum of 2 years’ related experience working with children and youth with special needs such as autism and/or other mental health challenges in a residential setting, medical or nursing, crisis intervention and psychological rehabilitation techniques
- Equivalent combination of education / experience or training in the related field working with children and youth with behavioural and other needs is accepted

**Requirements and Preferences**
- **Must have** Two (2) years’ related experience working with children and youth with special needs such as autism and/or other mental health challenges in a residential setting, medical or nursing, crisis intervention and psychological rehabilitation techniques **OR** equivalent combination of education in the related field and experience in working with children and youth with behavioural and other needs.
- **Must have** Valid MCFD HUB Clearance
- Valid class 5 driver’s license is preferred
- Medical Clearance (can be obtained upon hiring)
- Valid First Aid/CPR (can be obtained before hiring)
- Food Safe (can be obtained before hiring)
- Mandt (Active Non-violent Crisis Intervention Certificate is a plus) (we will train you if you don't have)
- Demonstrates competency in both verbal and written English
- **We are not accepting international students for this position**:

- Basic computer literacy
- Eligible to work in Canada with no restriction to work in the field or with children and/or youth

**Typical Duties**

The Support Worker Child and Youth assists in proper documentation of client assessments and a written individual service plan with client goals and objectives, maintaining a healthy, safe and nurturing home environment for clients following house rules and policies. They assist with developing the service plan with the client, family, the case manager, social workers and other care providers, client assessments and individual service plan goals and objective implementation. They facilitate the delivery of health services, social, recreational, educational, volunteer and job activities of clients. Documents client activities and behavior such as how the client responds to tasks with their service or safety plans.

The Support Worker Child and Youth will conduct record keeping activities, manage petty cash for daily expenses and groceries. Also manage some client costs such as clothing allowances, activity costs and client allowances. They will ensure completeness of client records, incident reports, meeting minutes, related statistics, communication log, supplies/inventory’s, dietary and nutritional requirements, activities for shift change.

**Roles and Responsibilities**
- Takes direction from the Case Manager in providing direct services to the client and safe and healthy operation of the program,
- Participates in the assessment, goal setting and progress evaluation of children / youth
- Participates in an integrated case management process with client, family and professionals, to develop service and safety plans, evaluate the effectiveness of planned interventions, programming and goal attainment,
- Helps Case manager in conducting client assessment,
- Assists Case Manager to deliver the effective care of each client,
- Provides basic orientation of policy/procedure/work methods and job shadowing for new employees in the program if requested by the case manager,
- Participates in delivery of client service and safety plan objectives, programming and goal attainment,
- Ensures that service delivery adheres to agency philosophy and policy,
- Monitors and documents client wellbeing and progress in daily living skill development, volunteer and job activities and goal attainment relative to the service plan,
- Monitors and documents client medication management,
- Assists and teaches children / youth to relate in a socially appropriate mann
