**THE ROLE**:
The position of **Water Treatment Plant Operator **is responsible for adjusting, testing, and evaluating the treatment process that controls water quality released downstream of decommissioned mine sites and adjusting or directing flows. Completing work consistent with company and contractor health and safety expectations and with a view to a strong safety culture and sense of community. This role will also be responsible for completing Health & Safety and facility inspections and performing long term care and maintenance (C&M) activities, including labour, at various projects primarily on closed mine sites in the Elliot Lake area.

**_This role is being offered as a full time hourly position based in Elliot Lake, Ontario. All applicants must be eligible to work in Canada. You are flexible and versatile as the technical environmental duties require computer skills, safe working practices, and the performance of monitoring tasks and much of the environmental monitoring work is done outdoors. In addition, you possess the following skills and attributes:

- Safety minded - follows Company safety policies, wears appropriate PPE for the task, and participates in safety improvement programs
- Holds a valid Class G driver license with clear driver’s abstract
- Experience with industrial wastewater and/or mine wastewater treatment operations is preferred. Applicants with drinking water or wastewater treatment experience will be considered and, in this scenario, a valid operator’s certificate from the Ontario Water Wastewater Certification Office is preferred
- A competent computer user (familiar with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel) and able to learn and proficiently use a remote water treatment plant monitoring system
- Ability to think ahead and act proactively
- Able to read and understand instructions and procedures
- Effective writing and communication skills
- Able to work in a team environment
- Punctual, self-motivated, and independent work habits
- Proficient in the use of ATVs and Snowmobiles
- Physically fit (able to walk and/or snowshoe up to ½ km through forested areas)
- Able to carry backpack loads of up to 7 Kg for ½ km
- Additional preference for experience or interest in surface and ground water sampling and testing

**YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Complete treatment plant rounds. Multiple plants are in operation with slightly different treatment processes, operations are based on seasonal flows.
- Operate and monitor computerized control systems and related equipment in water treatment plants to regulate the treatment and distribution of water
- Read meters, gauges, and other recording instruments to measure water output and reagent consumption
- Collect and test water samples
- Keep accurate plant logs, records, statistics and contribute to the drafting and finalization of performance reports
- Communicate well with colleagues for effective knowledge sharing and efficient operations
- Perform security checks and on call visits, as required
- May perform minor maintenance or assist skilled tradespersons with installation or repair of plants as reasonable and safe
- May measure, mix, transport reagents to maintain feed stocks
- Conduct monthly facility and health and safety inspections
- Monitor dam integrity in relation to beaver activity and vegetation growth
- Perform annual surveys of various berms and spillways to closely monitor elevations
- Provide on-call coverage as required
- Labour as required, e.g., frost crack raking, beaver dam removal
