Communitech is a hybrid organization headquartered in downtown Kitchener, Ontario. In-person connection is important to us, so we get together regularly for special events, collaboration days and team socials, and we ask our team members to work onsite from our Kitchener facility for a minimum of 60 hours per month.

We’re looking for a hands-on VP, Marketing & Communications to shape the brand, story and creative voice of one of the world’s top innovation ecosystems. As a key leader of Communitech, you’ll help tech and tech-enabled companies to start, grow and succeed in Waterloo Region and around the world.

As the leader of our marketing, editorial, and communications teams, you will develop and drive initiatives that help our member companies grow by “telling their stories”, championing the tech ecosystem, building our Communitech brand, promoting our products & services, and supporting internal teams.

What you’ll be doing: *
- Provide leadership and vision for Communitech’s strategic and integrated marketing and communications functions
- Oversee the deployment of marketing, editorial, communications, and eventing functions in support of growth initiatives targeting our members and highlighting our Waterloo Region ecosystem while maintaining a customer-centric mindset.
- Build the Communitech brand as the voice of the organization and champion of the Ecosystem with a focus of “punching above our weight”
- Create and foster an environment of story-telling to showcase/promote our member companies and to demonstrate the value of the products and services that Communitech provides.
- Utilize internal and external resources to provide timely, cost effective services for our internal teams.
- Oversee the execution of targeted market based events that serve to educate, inform and promote our members and to build brand and reputation of our members and ecosystem
- Amplify the Communitech narrative with all constituent audiences
- Create an open, team-building work environment, motivating staff and cultivating productive, collaborative relationships with all constituent groups.
- Facilitate a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage all those with diverse backgrounds.

What we’re seeking: *
- 15+ year’s experience as a marketing leader, managing brands, product marketing and teams
- Previous tech industry experience helpful but not necessary
- 10+ year’s experience interfacing with Board Members and CEO’s directly
- A proven track record demonstrating strategic expertise, analytical skills and online marketing expertise
- A strategic approach and hands-on attitude - a desire and ability to roll up your sleeves and work alongside those you will manage and mentor.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively both inside and outside the organization
- History of retaining, developing, motivating and mentoring a collaborative and high performing marketing team capable of exceeding ambitious goals.
- Mission driven and energetic, resilient and personally committed to achieving success
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills that persuade and inspire others
