**GENERAL SUMMARY**
The Assembly Shop Lead Hand is responsible for the creation of quality parts produced on machines such as, but not limited to, lathes and milling machines and equipment according to company plans, blueprints, and other diagrams. The Lead-hand must have a high level of mechanical aptitude, and 5 to 10 years work experience as a Lead-hand or equivalent experience coupled with 5 to 10 years of General Machinist experience. Responsibilities shall include the management of several shop floor employees, maintaining product quality, tool purchasing and safety. Also, he/she will work with managers, supervisors, other lead hands and shop floor employees to coordinate production schedules. The Lead-hand will detect and report equipment malfunctions to their immediate supervisor.
**PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)**:
- Supervise the employees in the Assembly Department
- Ensure that the work load is distributed as required to meet customer demands
- Communicate to Planners any delays or improvements related to work order completion within Assembly
- Ensure that all employees within the department work in a safe manner
- Train all employees on the hazards within the Assembly Department
- Work closely with Planning, Purchasing and Engineering to mitigate any assembly issues/concerns
- Participate in workplace inspections as required
- Daily complete a visual workplace inspection of area of responsibility
- Read schematics, blueprints and other technical diagrams
- Bolt, screw, clip, or otherwise fasten parts and components together using hand and power tools and various other equipment
- Position and install parts, subassemblies and accessories using hand and power tools and other aids like overhead cranes
- Mark, record and report defects
- Daily inspect cranes and record on the inspection sheet
- Daily inspect tow motors, if used and record on the inspection sheet
- Clean, maintain and repair machinery, equipment and tools
- Grind, scrape, sand or polish surfaces using abrasive tools or machines
- Update bills of materials for errors - use of additional parts, etc.
- Follow all DeZURIK safety standards
- Follow all rules and regulations included in the DeZURIK Employee Handbook
- Report any hazards, near-misses or incidents that you notice or are involved in
- Determine and discuss with supervisor any potential process improvements
- Shared responsibility for demonstrating professionalism and respect for all employees of DeZURIK
- Participate in and provide assistance with the annual physical inventory count
- Perform managerial duties as required

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**:
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent
- Completion of the Supervisor Health & Safety Awareness program
- Completion of Workplace Inspection and Incident Investigation training
- Knowledge of the legislated Health & Safety requirements
- Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures
- Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics and other technical diagrams
- Critical eye for identifying defects
- Commitment to quality and safety
- Ability to work independently to assemble valves in accordance with customer specifications
- Ability to prioritize work according to the shipment schedule
- Ability to readily determine the correct tools and equipment needed to complete a job
- Ability to operate angle grinder, compressed air, sander, etc.
- If overhead crane use is required, must be certified prior to using overhead cranes
- If tow motor use is required, must be certified prior to using tow motor
- Good verbal, listening and written communication skills to effectively communicate with people at all levels of business
- Attention to detail with high degree of accuracy

- Ability to work under pressure in a fast paced environment

**PHYSICAL DEMANDS**:
- Ability to lift heavy objects
- Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labour
- Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry parts as required
- Work regularly in conditions that include noise, heat, humidity and exposure to dust
