**Starting Salary**: $52,220 - $59,520, per year based on experience. Salary Range Max $67,900 [2023 Rates]

**The Role**

The Federal Advisor will review, assess, monitor and analyze all federal government environmental and resource-development-related consultation issues, activities and related matters and provide strategic policy and related technical advice as well as research with respect to Métis consultation including, but not limited to, matters arising from federal/provincial relations and all agreements as well as Memoranda of Understanding between the Métis Nation of Ontario and the Government of Canada.

**Duties include, but are not limited to**:

- Provide community feedback and responses in respect of relevant Project documents and the consultation process.
- Prepare presentations on federal government resource-development-related issues and policies to be used in community and other related information sessions.
- Draft briefing notes, policy papers, research papers, proposals and business cases.
- Conduct research as required by project directives and prepare briefing notes, papers, memoranda and other documents.
- Review and analyze federal government-related lands, resources and consultations-related policies and legislation, regulations and all related matters (e.g., climate change, Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada, Environment Canada, Parks Canada, IAAC, CNSC, NEB, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Natural Resources Canada etc.).
- Assist in the formulation of responses to the government and proponents.
- Assist with Project Environmental Impact Assessment (EIS) Guidelines and Federal Environmental Assessments under the Impact Assessment Act and Terms of Reference.
- Assist with, and provide expertise for, MNO Valued Components Workshops to discuss results of baseline data and effects assessment methodology, including the incorporation of a Traditional Knowledge and Land Use Studies.
- Develop communication plans for the project, including the development of content, and plain speak communication tools, such as mail outs, website ads, and other communications for the Métis Community related to the project
- Track and maintain detailed records related to activities and deliverables, such as: meetings attended with communities, dates and locations; meetings attended with other organizations, dates and locations; issues discussed; list and description of initiatives that have been undertaken/addressed; training undertaken by the Advisor; and general outcomes
- Provide regular updates to the external project team via summary reports and teleconference meetings.
- Other reasonable duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**
- Strong desire to act in the service of the Métis Citizens, to advance and uphold rights and culture
- Completion of post-secondary education in environmental sciences or resource development or a related area, or equivalent experience; a Master’s degree in a related field is preferred.
- 2-5 years’ experience in natural resources or environmental sectors or Indigenous legal, policy and research especially in respect of the federal government; some government policy or program experience is preferred.
- An understanding of regulatory processes, environmental issues and Indigenous issues or a demonstrated ability and willingness to learn about these and other processes and issues quickly.
- A high degree of technology literacy and proficiency in standard office equipment
- Advanced communications skills, both written and verbal
- Superior organization skills and time/priority-management
- Highly detail-oriented
- Ability to problem-solve independently
- Ability to work alone/indecently with mínimal supervision
- Strong project coordination, including the design and implementation of project work-plans
- Previous 2 years or more experience in a similar/comparable role
- Previous experience dealing with confidential information
- Demonstrated ability in managing relationships with a variety of internal / external stakeholders
