Primary Duties
Coordinates all work relating to the installation and the overall coordination of activities with the crews, customers, and contractors for the networking business. This position is the same as the network technician position, with added responsibilities fibre optic splicing and infrastructure locating.
1. General Operational Duties
- Installs Fibre Optic Network components at customer premises and on the backbone.
- Wireless network installation and maintenance
- Fibre optic splicing
- Network Infrastructure locating
- Supervise contractors
- Troubleshoots

2. Administrative Duties
- Customer relationship management
- Recording details of fibre optic splices in spreadsheets
- Maintaining updates to the GIS based network infrastructure inventory.

3. Occupational Health and Safety
- Understands and works within the confines of all applicable rules and regulations
- Identifies hazards and/or participates in/or document tailboard conferences
- Reports health and safety hazards with an unacceptable level of risk and offers potential solutions to supervisors

Education, Certification and Other Qualifications Required
Education
- 2 year College Diploma in Electronics/Technology Training
- Certified Fibre Optic Technician Certificate from the Fiber Optic Association Inc. (or equivalent)
- Damage Prevention Technician certification from the ORCGA

2. Licenses, Trades, Certificates, Professional Designation
- Valid Class ‘G’ driver’s license for Ontario
- Utility Work Protection Code (WPC)
- Radial Boom Derrick (RBD) Certification
- First Aid/CPR certification

3. Experience
- 4-5 years on the job experience at Utilities Kingston
- Underground infrastructure locating
- Fibre optic equipment install and operation
- Troubleshooting with OTDR test set
- Fibre optic splicing with fusion set in a carrier environemnt
- Experience with fall protection equipment
- Knowledge of health and safety rules and the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act

4. Abilities
- Effective leadership and a team player
- Proven ability to be organized, resourceful and self-motivated
- Must be able to work shift rotation
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills
- Familiarity with the Corporation’s safety rules as well as the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and Industry Specific Regulations
- Reliable

Special Working Conditions/Conditions of Employment
- Maintain a valid Class “G” driver’s license.
- Completion of a Criminal Record Check at the employee’s own expense, and to the satisfaction of Utilities Kingston.
