Accounts Coordinator

**Duties and Responsibilities**:
Under the supervision of the Medical Office Administrator, the Accounts Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of the medical office billing and accounts receivable systems in an accurate and timely manner. This involves ensuring compliance with university financial policies as well as policies and billing practices dictated by the Ontario Ministry of Health and the Ontario Medical Association. In carrying out these responsibilities, the accounts coordinator recommends policy and procedure changes. The Accounts Coordinator also provides administrative support for the Health Services team and performs other duties as required.
**Qualifications**:
The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:
- Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures;
- Working knowledge of medical billing procedures;
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written;
- Attention to detail, accuracy and efficiency are critical attributes required for this position;
- Ability to use tact and diplomacy while working with a diverse client group;
- High regard for strict medical confidentiality;
- Ability to research rejected medical claims and contested medical office fees;
- Excellent working knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, Excel;
- Experience with electronic medical record systems;
- Excellent organization skills in order to work independently and prioritize work flow to meet sensitive and demanding timelines;
- Ability to recommend procedure changes in the area of immediate responsibility.
**Education and Experience**:
The above is normally acquired through the completion of:
- Two years of post-secondary education, preferably in accounting or medical office training.
- Five years of directly related experience, of which one year is in a medical office, with progressive responsibility.
