**Position Responsibilities**
- The
- **School of Arts and Culture** is seeking a Probationary Continuous Indigenous Studies Instructor within the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences.-
- _INDS_
- 205: Indigenous Peoples in Canada._
- INDS 205 focuses on the historical and contemporary contexts and experiences of Indigenous Peoples in Canada with a specific focus on Alberta. Some of the themes and topics the course focuses on include: an introduction to the way Indigenous languages shape understanding and experiences, colonialism, cultural and political re-emergence, Indigenous and non-Indigenous relations, and reconciliation. This is a required course in many of the degree programs at Red Deer Polytechnic.- There are also options to teach and develop courses in other disciplines within the department of Humanities and Social Sciences.
- Evidence of using decolonizing methodologies; engagement with Indigenous knowledge systems and theories; and sustained engagement with Indigenous communities in are considered an asset.-
- Faculty may be required to teach on campus and/or online (with synchronous or asynchronous instruction). All faculty may be required to attend on campus meetings and events.-
- Proficiency in a Canadian Indigenous language as well as having a relationship with Alberta Indigenous communities is an asset.

- Masters Degree in Indigenous Studies or a cognate discipline position.

**Preferred Qualifications**
- Ph.D. in Indigenous Studies or a cognate discipline. Proficiency in a Canadian Indigenous language; has relationship with Alberta Indigenous communities.
- Proficiency in a Canadian Indigenous language as well as having a relationship with Alberta Indigenous communities is an asset.
- Experience teaching Indigenous Studies or similar at the university level.
- Experience teaching in one or more academic disciplines outside of Indigenous studies (we have teaching needs in political science, but other humanities and social science disciplines will be considered).
- Experience teaching upper-year courses and multidisciplinary perspective courses
