The Alberta Public Service (APS) is taking a One Finance approach to the delivery of financial services. Financial services include the delivery of financial planning, reporting and operations, as well as ongoing engagement with policy and program areas to provide strategic decision-making support. **Role Responsibilities**:
The Ministry of Treasury Board and Finance has an exciting opportunity for you as a Tax Information Officer

Job Responsibilities:

- Promote, educate and deliver timely high-quality services to meet the needs of our program stakeholders.
- Educate and explain to the public all the different TRA programs, related policies and procedures, specific rights, and obligations,
- Responds to written, telephone (via a contact center) and in-person enquiries of varying complexity from all TRA clients for all TRA programs. Such enquiries may include different program eligibility and requirements, explanation of basis of assessment/rebate amounts, reasons for refusal, interest and penalty charged, reconciliation of accounts, making payment, etc.,
- Educates and promotes on-line services such as the Alberta.ca account and Tax and Revenue Administrations Client Self-Service (TRACS) and other on-line delivery offering.
- Ensure correct amount is refunded or reimbursed to qualifying clients through the officer’s analysis.
- Ensure correct assessment of corporate and commodity tax returns.
- Ensure accuracy of the tax rolls of the different programs administered.
- Process non-routine accounting adjustments (transfers of funds between accounts and/or tax year ends, penalty reversals, interest adjustments, reimbursements), account reconciliations at the client level.

**Qualifications**:
Required:

- Two-year diploma in Accounting or related field such as Business (or other related program) plus a minimum of 2 years related experience.
- Equivalency: Directly related education considered on the basis of 1-year of education for 1-year of experience

Assets:

- Knowledge of provincial and federal legislation and policies.
- Ability to interpret supporting documentation including financial statements and make decision on the appropriate action required to answer enquires.
- Knowledge of tax, interest and penalty calculations.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Knowledge of TRA operational areas, their policies and processes.
