**REPORTS TO: Senior Director, Operational Excellence & Planning**

**JOB SUMMARY**:
As a Safety Advisor at Cairo Development, you will be responsible for managing, enhancing and championing Cairo’s safety programs, policies, and procedures in compliance with regulatory standards and maintaining Cairo’s COR certification. You will collaborate with project teams, subcontractors, and field personnel to promote a safe work environment across all construction sites. Your role will be crucial in fostering a proactive safety culture, conducting audits, and providing continuous safety education. Acting as a trusted advisor, you will help identify potential risks and hazards, while ensuring Cairo Development remains a leader in safety practices within the construction industry. You will be required to travel extensively to ensure safety compliance and conduct on-site assessments.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Collaborate with project teams to maintain and enhance a comprehensive Safety Program, including Job Hazard Analyses, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) guidelines, and safety procedures
- Partner with the project team to align HSE services with project goals, focusing on injury prevention, hazard control, and safety training
- Assist in developing essential safety documentation such as confined space assessments, ventilation plans, and site safety management plans
- Manage the implementation and monitoring of local and provincial HSE regulatory requirements, customer frameworks, prevention and HSE system plan (Cairo Development and General Contractor), and work processes to ensure smooth site operations.
- Provide guidance to management, project managers, site superintendents, and other personnel on safety best practices, legislative requirements, and site-specific safety matters
- Conduct safety audits, inspections, and toolbox talks to address concerns and reinforce protocols
- Inspect equipment and work areas to ensure safety and take corrective actions when necessary
- Oversee safety measures related to fall protection, scaffolding, steel erection, and excavation
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Health & Safety legislation and company safety standards
- Support site superintendents in completing safety paperwork, including subcontractor and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) documentation
- Review site documentation and records for injuries/illnesses in the First Aid Record Book and other safety-related records, such as investigations, near misses, and incidents
- Establishing effective communication channels with different stakeholders
- Participate in site inspections, safety training, and emergency response drills
- Maintaining Cairo's COR certification through continuous compliance and regular audits
- Lead safety culture initiatives and promote continuous improvement in safety programs
- Develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures and conduct drills to ensure all team members are prepared for emergencies
- Monitor and maintain safety documentation, including injury records, safety audits, and incident investigations
- Provide support and follow-up for injured workers, ensuring proper documentation
- Adhere to all KPIs and requirements to maintain compliance status for Cairo Development, clients, General Contractors, and regulatory authorities
- Uphold high ethical standards in all business dealings, ensuring company ethics and integral practices

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in health and safety within the construction sector
- Required Certification: NCSO (mandatory)
- Preferred Certifications: CRSP, CHSO, CSP, or CHSC
- Thorough understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Construction Regulations of Alberta with emphasis on creating a strong safety culture on-site and accident prevention techniques such as compliance with external and internal policies
- Proven track record of delivering clear, concise, and comprehensive reports, guidelines, assessments, and other documents and adeptly resolving intricate technical matters in collaboration with various discipline
- Experience in developing and implementing safety programs
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, Outlook)
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work both independently and within a team env
