**Position Overview**
The Field Safety Advisor will support operational excellence by ensuring the effective implementation of HSE policies and procedures. The Field Safety Advisor is additionally responsible for updates and maintenance of the SUBLATUS Health and Safety program. This role is the safety generalist assigned to manage programs, solve problems, and proactively resolve safety issues at various sites.

**Responsibilities**
- Provide support, positive safety leadership, serving as a role model for the health and safety standards to be implemented and maintained.
- Provide support for internal and external training as required for projects i.e., Standard/Intermediate First Aid, WHMIS, etc.
- Assist company management to implement and maintain the health and safety programs policies, procedures, and plans.
- Provide professional technical support to project management, supervisors, workers, and any other persons who may be affected by company activities and on all matters associated with health and safety.
- Maintaining current knowledge of safety literature, safety regulations, industry best practices and Sublatus Environmental codes of practice.
- Monitor the overall performance of the SUBLATUS Health and Safety Program at the worksite through submitted inspections, audits, and other related methods of measurement.
- Comply with the use of required safety equipment or devices, personal protective equipment and clothing as directed by SUBLATUS.
- Lead the investigation of select incident/critical near misses to determine the underlying cause. (a thorough investigation must be conducted, root cause identified, and preventability determined)
- Act as a liaison between HSC, HS representative and SUBLATUS management.
- Inform the Supervisor of any physical or mental impairment that may affect their ability to work safely (e.g., back problems, illness, health condition, medication, etc.), and to refrain from working where impairment may create an undue risk to themselves or others
- Ensure that worker safety suggestions are fairly and respectfully evaluated and that workers are informed of the outcome of the evaluations.
- Ensure that injured personnel (with or without life-threatening injuries) are escorted to medical treatment by the safety officer or other supervisory personnel; and
- Assess and recommend training requirements/needs from hazard assessments/
**Qualifications/Skills**
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety, acquired through a university degree or college diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, or related field with additional health and safety related courses and seminars.
- Ability to obtain and maintain internal and external field safety certifications.
- Ability to conduct audits and assessments based on recognized standards and/or best practices.
- Strong research and analytical skills, as well as problem solving and risk assessment skills.
- Superior oral and written communication skills to provide advice and guidance in an audience appropriate format in order to win the support and buy-in of multiple stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong human relations, facilitation, negotiation, conflict resolution, persuasion, and presentation skills to engage, consult, advise, and guide all levels of staff; resolve safety issues in a sensitive environment; influence adherence to procedures and regulations and behavior change; conduct training programs; and lead/chair committees.
- Mediation and coaching skills to interact with management and staff to resolve safety issues with contractors and regulatory agencies, and support resolution of labor relations issues relating to health and safety.
- Skill in the operation of a personal computer and knowledge of software programs.
- Ability to read and comprehend health and safety legislation, codes, standards, and practices; conduct research and understand scientific studies and other technical documents; translate technical information into lay terms so they are understood by technical and non-technical audiences; and to justify and defend recommendations.
- Ability to write procedures, investigative reports, proposals, reports, audit documents, planning documents, and statistical analysis.
- Ability to present training and respond to inquiries from all levels of staff, provide advice and instructions, and to attend and participate in meetings and conferences.
- A valid provincial driver’s license that is in good standing, required to travel within and outside the different regions to attend meetings.
