**Transitional House Worker**

Maison Decision House - Ottawa, ON

Maison Decision House (MDH) is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1979. It provides a community-based residential treatment program for adult male offenders, regardless of race and religion, who are returning to the community as a part of their release process. MDH has helped over a thousand individuals make the transition into the community by providing shelter, guidance and counselling.

$18.50/hr - Part Time positions/full time available. Schedule includes varying Evening (1630-0030) Overnight (0030-0830) and Weekend shifts (0030-1230, 1230-0030).

Hours will vary between 8-30 a week. Summer will have fewer hours, with hours increasing in September.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Using the logbook to sign clients in/out.
- Conducting hourly rounds to ensure that clients are accounted for and are following house rules and regulations.
- Logging all rounds, phone calls, and ingresses/egresses of both clients and visitors
- Ensure that house chores are assigned and are completed. Clients are aware that they have house chores and that it is their responsibility to maintain the cleanliness of the house.
- Processing new client intake for evening arrivals.
- Conducting urinalysis testing (Training provided).
- Writing incident reports when a situation arises.
- Itemizing of client's belongings as needed.
- Ensuring that all safety equipment is in proper working order (fire alarms, door and window alarms, personal panic button alarms, and exit lights).
- Maintaining awareness of client behavior and writing daily observation notes.
- Maintaining discipline and ensuring that the rules and regulations of MDH are respected.
- Uphold confidentiality and ethical standards in all interactions with residents
- Respond promptly to any emergencies or crisis situations within the facility
- Various administrative tasks including filing, scanning, and photocopying documents.

**DESIRED WORK EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION**:

- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Military, policing, correctional or security experience is desirable.
- Must be able to obtain **Reliability Level Security Clearance **with the Federal Government.
- Possess a valid **First Aid CPR Level C & AED** (or be able to get one ASAP).

**SKILLS**:

- The ability to understand the dynamics of offenders' behaviour and assess their risks and needs.
- The skills to counsel offenders, form effective relationships, and gain trust.
- Understanding the use of authority in a supervisory role.
- The ability to intervene and remain calm in crisis situations.
- Effective communication in English both orally and in writing.
- The ability to understand cultural differences.
