**About Us**:
The Ministry of Mental Health and Addiction is responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction, including the development, implementation, monitoring, and compliance to policy, legislation and standards, for addiction and mental health services, as well as proactive monitoring of substance use and mental health data to support system planning. The Ministry works with service providers and community partners to design and enhance a coordinated community-based addiction and mental health care system, leveraging policy and practice innovations and research and evaluation to enable the best possible outcomes for Albertans. The Ministry works closely with other cross-ministry partners, external organizations, other Canadian provinces and the Government of Canada to plan addiction and mental health service delivery. The Ministry also liaises with the Office of the Alberta Health Advocates and Alberta Health Services.

**Role**:
The Manager will oversee various projects that focus on implementation of child and youth mental health and addiction initiatives and improving access to care through a systems-level approach.

This position is responsible for managing the implementation of provincial addiction and mental health strategies including:

- Consulting and coordinating with other ministry units, branches, government ministries, and stakeholders to support successful planning and implementation of child and youth addiction and mental health strategies.
- Leading core elements in the implementation of child and youth initiatives built on the premise of a recovery oriented system of care.
- Supervising, mentoring and supporting team staff.
- Managing grants; leading and monitoring the development and implementation of specific strategy work plans and monitoring their progression in accordance with identified deliverables, outcomes, and timelines.
- Working with their team, the branch, relevant department business units, and stakeholders to foster a well-integrated process for strategic policy implementation.

The Manager builds strong working relationships and provides expert advice and support to Ministry leaders, Alberta Health Services, other government sectors, and affiliated stakeholders, both inside and outside the health sector, and may represent provincial perspectives on interprovincial and national committees. Senior and executive ministry leaders rely on the strategic analysis of issues and opportunities, and related recommendations developed by the Manager to support decision making.

**Qualifications**:
University degree in health, management or human services field (e.g., Public Policy, Health Administration, Business Administration, Social Work) and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience related to the role.

Previous experience is required in:

- Providing leadership, direct supervision and support to staff
- Managing and directing the implementation of complex projects or programs
- Leading, engaging and building trusting relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Analyzing program or initiative data for progress monitoring and quality improvement purposes
- Experience managing contracts and/or grants for a government or large agency funder
- Financial acumen and experience working with and understanding project budgets
- Experience with evaluation approaches and promoting the uptake of evidence-based practice for implementation.
- Health sector, youth-serving sector, mental health and addiction field, or social services experience

The following are considered assets:

- Direct experience working in addiction or mental health service settings
- A Master’s degree in a related field

Equivalencies may be considered - directly related education or experience on the basis of:

- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
