**Job Details**:
**Position Title**: Sessional Counsellor

**Status**: Academic Sessional Contract, 1year

**Faculty/Department**: Student Wellness and Equitable Learning

**Campus/Location**: North Campus

**Hours**:35hrs per week, Monday to Friday 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Option to explore compressed work week (10hr shifts) dependent on operational needs

**Salary**:Academic starting salaries are determined based on qualifications and years of related experience as detailed in the collective agreement for academic employees.

**About the Sessional Counsellor Role**:
Reporting to the Associate Director, Mental Health and Counselling Services, the Counsellor provides one-to-one and group-based mental health support to students of Humber College. The counsellor provides support through a one-at-a-time (single sessions) approach and framework; providing care to students with complex presentations and needs - including the assessment and treatment of cognitive, emotional, and/or behavioral symptoms through psychotherapeutic means; conducting risk management and suicide assessments, providing crisis interventions, and case management including campus and community referrals. The incumbent will serve students within a multi-campus institution through in-person and virtual supports to ensure equitable access to service. The incumbent will also contribute to the development and provision of evidence-informed psychoeducational groups, workshops, faculty consultations, and further skill development and training opportunities. Counsellors will provide counselling services for all student populations within anti-racist, anti-oppressive, and decolonizing frameworks

**Education**:

- Master’s degree in Social work, Psychology, Counselling Psychology, Education or a related discipline from an accredited program
- Registration with a recognized regulatory college/body in good standing; under the Regulated Health Professions Act able to perform the Controlled Act of Psychotherapy

**Experience/Skills**:

- Knowledge of Ontario Mental Health Act, the Psychotherapy Act, the Health Care Consent Act, and Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA), as well as College professional and ethical standard requirements
- Successful completion of supervised counselling by a recognized counselling professional
- Minimum of three (3) years of counselling / mental health services within a postsecondary institution, community organization or health care setting, with demonstrated experience coordinating care across sectors, agencies, and interdisciplinary professionals
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience providing individual and group psychotherapy
- Strong generalist skills with specialization and/or expertise in interpersonal psychotherapy, DBT, ACT, and/or other evidence-based practices
- Experience conducting client assessments, including risk assessments and a demonstrated capacity to make appropriate recommendations for treatment, support, and risk management
