**About us**

At HWS, we use a gender based analysis (GBA+), trauma and violence informed framework to deliver prevention, education and crisis support services to women and their families who have been impacted by gender based violence (GBV) in rural Huron County. Our services include a 24-hour helpline and emergency shelter, risk assessment and safety planning, advocacy, system navigation, individual and group healing opportunities, and community development.

We are seeking a **Maintenance Assistant** to join our team. This is an 8 Week, Full Time Contract funded through the Government of Canada, Canada Summer Jobs Program.

**Job Purpose**

Reporting to the Manager of Maintenance and Facilities, and working throughout our residential programs, the Maintenance Assistant will contribute to the safe and efficient operation of the organization’s properties and day-to-day up keep including performing maintenance activities and repairs.

**Duties and Responsibilities Include**:
1. Assist Maintenance personnel with repairs.

2. Support with maintaining the function and safety of our 4 facilities.

3. Complete upkeep of buildings exteriors and properties.

**Location**

This position may require the incumbent to work throughout our four locations throughout the County of Huron located in Goderich, Clinton and Exeter.

**Hours**

The hours for this position are 35 hours a week and may be required to work a variable of day, evening and weekend hours to support program and agency needs. This is an 8 week long contract with an hourly wage of $19.50.

- Ability to work independently or within a team while maintaining productivity with mínimal supervision.
- Demonstrated organizational abilities and skills.
- Computer skills in order to complete required online training.
- Possess a work safe attitude by following workplace specific health and safety policies and procedures; work and act in a way that won’t endanger yourself or any other employee or resident; report any hazard you find in the workplace to your supervisor.
- Ability to maintain respectful and positive interactions with staff and residents.

**Required Qualifications**

**This position is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs Program. To be eligible, youth must**:

- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period.
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
- Completion of their High School diploma, general education degree or equivalent education and experience, or currently enrolled in an educational program.
- Experience with hand tools and power tools and asset.
- Fluency in other languages an asset.

**Physical Requirements**
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Ability to climb ladders, stand or walk for prolonged periods of time, reach overhead while performing certain maintenance duties and bend or crawl into awkward spaces.
- Work in extreme weather at times.
