**Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Director of Research and working as part of the Research, Innovation, and Discovery team, the Manager of Research Development provides strategic direction and operational oversight to the team responsible for key aspects of the Nova Scotia Health’s critical research functions, including but not limited to administration of annual research awards and grants, streamlining the awards and grants administration process, design and administration of internal funding competitions awarding annually, monitoring and analysis of national and provincial health research funding trends, identifying and recruiting Scientific Affiliates in partner organizations, as well as supporting researchers in building their teams and developing funding proposals.
Specific functional areas of responsibility include:
- Administer and refine internal research funding competitions
- Serve as operational liaison with federal funders
- Manage the Research Development team
- Oversees compliance with provincial and national research funding agency policies
- Develop and maintain a calendar of local, national, and international health research funding opportunities
- Identify opportunities for engagement between Nova Scotia Health’s research and communications teams
- Oversee data entry & analysis of ROMEO platform for operational and strategic needs
- Works with the Research Education and Research Quality teams on the development of programs and tools to build research capacity at Nova Scotia Health
- Works with the Research Operations Manager and Research Quality teams to streamline internal research administration processes
- Works with the Business Development team to identify potential commercialization opportunities within the Nova Scotia Health research community
- Works with the Contracts and Research Ethics teams to ensure completion of necessary contracts for the administration of research
- Works with the Research Finance team to ensure adequate oversight and reporting on use of research funds
**Qualifications**:
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
- Masters degree in a health-related (e.g. Health Sciences, Health Administration, Applied Health Services Research) or other relevant field
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Canadian health research funding environment
- Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian health care systems and health research environments
- Proven ability to meet goals within a deadline driven environment
- Proven budgeting and financial management skills
- Proven team leadership skills
- Proven program/project management skills
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
- Demonstrated analytical thinking skills and decision-making abilities
- Demonstrated experience with database platforms (e.g., ROMEO) or other grant management software
- Demonstrated experience in policy development
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office software suite
- Ensures confidentiality and works in an ethical manner
