1. **General Information**
This position will commence as soon as possible. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced and
dedicated individual to work under the direction of the board and school administrative team, to assist
the school community in improving graduation success for First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students
attending our secondary schools.

Métis, and Inuit representatives and community agencies to build networks and supports to foster
success for students. As a member of the school team, you will play a crucial role in assisting all staff to
improve achievement and graduation rates for First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students attending our
secondary schools.
2. **Position**
**2.1. The Role
**The primary objectives of this position are to improve the experience and educational outcomes for
self-identified Indigenous students. Key areas include:
- Act as advocate for self-identified First Nations, Métis and Inuit students and families
- Identify, address and respond to individual and systemic barriers (e.g. academic, mental health,
justice, cultural knowledge);
- Build and maintain close working relationships with school personnel, other board support staff and
families and promote/maintain positive relations between school and home.
- Ensure structures and strategies are in place to engage, mentor, monitor and meet the learning
needs and stated aspirations of First Nations, Métis and Inuit students;
- Provide support to school staff in developing culturally relevant programming and interventions
- Collaborate with the First Nations, Métis and Inuit Education team and school-based Student
Success team to develop and implement strategies that facilitated increased participation by

- Track, monitor, and report on measures of student success and well-being**.
**2.2. Qualifications
- Ontario High School Diploma or equivalent, as well as a degree or diploma in Social Studies, Social
Work, First Nations Family Support, Health Care or related field, or an equivalent experience
- Extensive experience working with First Nations, Metis and Inuit students, their families and
communities within Northwestern Ontario is required.
- Knowledge and understanding of First Nations, Métis and Inuit cultures, values, ways of knowing
and histories;
- Knowledge and understanding of contemporary issues and barriers faced by First Nations, Métis
and Inuit students and families;
- Strong organizational skills, willingness to be flexible and work cooperatively with others.
- Skills to support and advocate for students and their families in complex social, emotional,
behavioural situations;
- Skills to motivate students, mediate, and resolve conflicts/problems
- A valid driver’s license and the willingness and ability to travel for board related business within the
city, to fly-in First Nation Communities and/or throughout the province is required.
- Knowledge of the Ojibwa/Oji-Cree language is an asset.
