**Position Title: Customs Associate**

**Reports to: Customs Supervisor**

**Job Purpose**:
To join a growing Customs Department and become a supportive addition to the group. This role will be responsible for much of the administration related to customs paperwork and data entry and will learn about the various details required when completing customs documentation.

**Primary Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Data Entry (accurate data entry for all documents)
- Answer customer queries about the status is shipments
- Clear/Walk entries through Customs
- When necessary, go to Canada Customs Office and obtain a release of shipment.
- Surrender Bill of Lading: send original bills of lading to steamship lines to obtain a release of freight.
- Rating and clearing of HVS and LVS shipments
- Sub Agency entries (Billing, faxing, deliveries, payables, pick-up of advice notes, customs clearances)
- Billing
- Maintain and update client profile with proper H.S codes, Tariff Treatments, change of address, vendor information.
- Communicate with agents on customs issues to resolve problems with shipments.
- Due to the requirement of the role to periodically travel to and from the airport, the role requires the incumbent to have their own transportation vehicle.
- The role from time to time may also require additional hours to be put in after-hours when the need may arise during busy periods.

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**:

- 1 - 2 years of experience working for a Customs Broker
- Certified Customs Specialist training - considered an asset
- Computer skills: Excel/Word/Fenix
- Strong communication skills
- Strong organization skills
- Mathematical/ Financial Skills: Ability to work with numbers, spreadsheets, and financial documents a definite asset
- Attention to Detail and Accuracy a must: Strong attention to detail required for documentation and day to day tasks
