This position has an initial appointment of up to one year from the date of hire.

**Department/Faculty Summary**

The Alberta Transplant Institute is a multi-disciplinary virtual institute of the University of Alberta that brings together researchers, clinicians, educators, trainees, allied health personnel, and community members (patient, family and (organ) donor partners) to improve donation and transplantation in Alberta and achieve global impact in cutting edge research, patient care, education, and advocacy. Our scope includes multiple transplant programs kidney, liver, heart, lung and others, including the world's largest islet transplant program. It fosters collaboration across numerous faculties of the University of Alberta, with the University of Calgary, with Alberta Health Services and throughout the province. We also host the Canadian Donation and Transplantation Research Program (cdtrp.ca), a national research network seeking to fulfill every donation opportunity and turn transplantation into a true cure. The CDTRP offers a wide array of supports to research, including funding opportunities, grant development support, a national training program, and a patient, family and donor partnership program.

**Position Summary**

The Research and Education Program Manager role, reporting to the ATI Operations Manager, is critical in designing and delivering the research and educational programming and supports through which the ATI delivers on its mandate. The incumbent will develop strong relationships across the ATI community, including with researchers, trainees, patient, family and living organ donor partners, and partner organizations, which are all crucial in delivering high value activities.

This is a temporary maternity cover position.

**Duties**
- Lead the development and organization of educational programming related to the ATI’s mandate for research, education, and advocacy, including the weekly seminar series and annual Research Day
- work directly with the relevant ATI committees to develop the content and format of educational activities
- lead the delivery of activities, including working directly with invited speakers (academic and patients, families, and living donors) and partner organizations on logistics and materials
- plan the budget for programming within a provided envelope
- Develop and implement a strategy for research development and support for academic members of the ATI, in consultation with the ATI community, and collaborating with other sources of support, particularly the Canadian Donation and Transplantation Research Program, the University, and other FoMD institutes
- develop and maintain a map of key research supports available to ATI members
- work to ensure ATI members are aware of available supports, including donation and transplantation-specific seed funding and collaboration opportunities, through multiple engagement strategies, including the ATI website, newsletter, social media, and individual and group meetings
- work with the ATI research committee to identify gaps in support and develop a strategy to address them, either locally through the ATI or nationally through collaboration with the CDTRP or other partners
