**Job Description & Expectations**
The General Machinist, under supervision, will be responsible for setting up, operating, and adjusting conventional lathes (mainly), milling machines, drill presses, and other precision equipment. Primarily accountable for working from sample parts and written instructions to create replacement and new parts for the repair of hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, charts and tables to determine machining operation to be performed, and plan best sequence of operations.
- Measure and duplicate sample parts using micrometers (inside & outside), verniers, callipers, or other specialized measuring instruments.
- Compute dimensions and tolerances and measure and lay out work pieces.
- Assess and inspect cylinder components for dimensions and geometric elements such as concentricity and perpendicularity using dial indicators, precision measuring instruments and gauges.
- Fit and assemble machined parts and subassemblies using hand and power tools.
- Maintain, repair, and calibrate precision measuring instruments such as dial indicators, fixed gauges, height gauges and other measuring devices.
- Perform regular cleaning and maintenance of all conventional equipment as required.
- Complete and submit inspection reports.
- Assist other co-workers with general shop duties as needed.**Qualifications**
- A Certificate of Qualification as a General Machinist or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5 years’ of machining experience, working to close tolerances, in a machine shop environment.
- Hold a valid driver’s license.
- Proficient communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
- Critical thinking and problem solving.
- Basic computer skills.
- Work with a safety-first attitude.
You will be reporting directly to the shop foreman for your day-to-day duties. Regular work hours are from 7:00 AM -3:30 PM, Monday to Friday. On occasion, flexibility in hours may be required due to project variability.
