Apprentice Machinist Position Summary: *

Willing to teach if you are willing to learn Have you ever thought about entering the Trades? Do you like to work with your hands? Do you like to tinker with tools and machinery? No experience but are willing to work hard and learn hands-on? Would you like to become a Licenced 429A General Machinist?
General Machinists use machine tools, such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders, to produce precision metal parts. They use their knowledge of the working properties of metals and their skill with machine tools to plan and carry out the operations needed to make machined products that meet precise specifications.

We are an employer willing to work with you to facilitate your 429A General Machinist Apprentice training, education, and certification.

Apprentice Responsibilities: *
- Learn to Read and interpret blueprints
- Learn to Operate and set up machines to perform repetitive machining operations
- Learn to Verify dimensions of parts machined using precise measuring instruments such as micrometers or calipers
- Learn to Perform routine maintenance on equipment and machinery
- Learn to Enter codes specifying speed, feed and cut of the toolpath for computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools
- Learn to Repetitive machining operations such as Turning, Milling, Boring and Broaching
- Learn to Weight handling up to 45 kg (100 lbs)
- Any other duties as required and assigned

**Skills, Abilities, and other Qualifications**:

- The General Machinist (429A) apprenticeship program consists of on-the-job and in-school training. The program typically takes four years to complete and consists of:

- 7,280 hours of on-the-job training/work experience
- 720 hours of in-school training (facilitated by the employer)
- A minimum of Grade 12 high school education or its equivalent is required to qualify for the General Machinist apprenticeship program.
- Some manufacturing experience preferred but not mandatory
- Desire to work in a trade; enjoys working with hands, using tools, and building or fixing mechanical devices
- Strong mathematical acumen (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
- Manual dexterity
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work in a noisy, hot, and fast paced environment
- “All-in” Winning Attitude

**MUST BE ABLE TO DO SHIFT WORK: Monthly rotations of Day, Afternoons and Midnight shifts with availability of overtime (No weekends or holidays) - must have transportation that accommodates shift work. Shift premiums are offered.**
