**Description**:
ATCO Frontec is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to join our Site Services department in Eureka, Nunavut. The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating heavy equipment used in the construction and maintenance of roads, buildings and other structures as well as material handling work.
The position will be located on site in Eureka, NU for 4 weeks and then on site in Resolute Bay, NU for 4 weeks, then off for 4 weeks. In total, 8 weeks on, 4 weeks off.
The hourly wage for this role is $26.
**Where We Work and Live**:
ATCO Frontec has been operating in Resolute Bay since 1970 and have a long history of providing services in the North. The ATCO Frontec team in Resolute Bay provides logistics services for various Northern Government and private sector initiatives, including support and maintenance for the Polar Continental Shelf Program, the Resolute Bay Weather Observation, and the operation, maintenance and distribution of fuel for the hamlet and the Resolute Bay airport. The project team also provides logistics and operational support to initiatives in surrounding communities including Eureka and Grise Fiord. With a wide range of resources and experience, the Resolute Bay team can handle any operation in one of the most hostile climates in Canada.
**Responsibilities**:
- Operate heavy equipment such as dump trucks, backhoes, bulldozers, loaders and graders to excavate, move, load and grade earth, rock, and gravel
- Operate snow blowers and plough trucks to remove snow from roads and parking lots
- Operate heavy equipment to spread or compact road surface materials during road construction and maintenance
- Operate heavy equipment to move, load and unload cargo
- Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment and clean, lubricate and refill equipment
**Qualifications**:
- Completion of secondary school
- Valid class 3 drivers license is required
- Clean drivers abstract
- A minimum five years of experience operating heavy equipment is required
- Ability to operate with minimum supervision
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
This position has been identified as safety sensitive and will require completion of a pre-employment alcohol & drug test, fit to work medical test, and a criminal record check.
