**Director, Climate and Environment**:
The City of Richmond is committed to be the most appealing, livable, well-managed community in Canada, a goal that is only made possible by developing our most valuable asset - _our people_. This is a great opportunity to join our team and shape our community. The City of Richmond offers competitive pay programs, comprehensive benefits and attractive incentives. If you are looking to make a difference, and to share our vision “to be the most appealing, livable, and well-managed community in Canada”, then please apply.
Are you ready to lead Richmond into a sustainable future? The City of Richmond is seeking an innovative leader for the position of Director, Climate and Environment (a recently retitled role). As the Director, you will drive efforts to combat climate change and protect Richmond’s unique environmental assets, ultimately furthering Richmond’s position as a leader in resiliency, sustainability, and circularity.
In this pivotal role, you will provide visionary leadership and strategic direction for the City of Richmond's climate and environmental initiatives. As Director, you will lead the development of staff and provide strategic direction on the scope and timing of new/revisions of policies, programs, and infrastructure projects that further Council’s objectives. Day to day responsibilities will encompass oversight of the Sustainability team (corporate energy, Energy Step Code/Zero Carbon policy, circular economy, e-mobility programs and existing building decarbonization programs) and the Environmental Sustainability team (invasive species management, riparian area management, spills to the environment, contaminated sites, habitat banking and environmental assessments).
You will represent the team with the Senior Management Team, Committees and City Council. To advance the team’s work, the role requires maintaining relationships and/or establishing partnerships and networks with the regional government, other cities, the non-profit sector and institutional organizations to drive initiatives that benefit all parties. Equity, diversity and inclusion will be important factors to advance through the team’s work, including maintaining the highest standard of public engagement and activation when undertaking new initiatives.
The new Director will continue to energize a hard working team and strategic partnerships with new ideas and approaches that lead to exciting results. Guided by the City’s corporate values (People, Excellence, Leadership, Team and Innovation), you will have space and support for furthering connections, creating possibilities and driving purpose for the team as the community evolves.
