About the Brain heart Interconnectome (BHI):
The BHI is a ground-breaking interdisciplinary research program aimed at accelerating the prevention, detection, treatment, and care of brain-heart disorders. The BHI program is led by the University of Ottawa, the University of Ottawa Heart Institute (UOHI) and Brain and Mind Research Institute (uOBMRI), with the Secretariat based at the University of Ottawa.

Position Purpose

Reporting to the Senior Director of the BHI, the Intermediate Specialist, Patient Engagement and Knowledge Mobilization works closely with both the Patient Engagement and Knowledge Mobilization leads for the Brain-Heart Interconnectome (BHI) program.

The incumbent will support the implementation and evaluation of patient engagement (PE) and knowledge mobilization (KMb) throughout the BHI program, contributing to enhanced skills across the BHI network and the BHI emerging as a leader in PE and KMb best practice. Responsibilities include effectively communicating BHI’s co-created knowledge to decision-makers, clinicians, patients and families, Indigenous groups, and the public. The position will require collaboration with other PE and KMb experts across the University of Ottawa and partner institutions, researchers, patients and diverse knowledge users.

In this role, your responsibilities will include:

- Drive patient engagement (PE) and knowledge mobilization (KMb) activities with guidance and input from BHI PE and KMb leads and in collaboration colleagues across the BHI network.
- Execute annual workplan developed with specific goals, deliverables, and outputs.
- Provide expertise and advice to researchers, staff and partners across the BHI network with respect to best practice in PE and KMb and the development of funding programs to support PE and KMb activities.
- Co-develop and modify existing PE and KMb resources and materials including training, templates, modules, and other resources with patient partners and end users to support the BHI research community.
- Participate in the writing of annual and final reports summarizing PE and KMb activities to program funders and the BHI community including patients and the public.

What you will bring:

- Three years of professional experience related to PE, KMb, communications, program coordination and/or program evaluation.
- Solid understanding of PE and KMb theory and/or practice.
- Ability to communicate with, build rapport and relationships, and meaningfully engage with knowledge users and BHI community members.
- Strong interpersonal and active listening skills.
- Strong organizational skills, with an ability to schedule and manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to develop agendas, background materials, and minutes for meetings, workshops, and conferences.
- Professional training or certification in patient engagement, knowledge mobilization, project management or program evaluation is considered an asset to this role.
- Lived experience (e.g., with heart and/or brain condition(s)) and equity-seeking communities is considered an asset to this role.
- Prior experience working to support and/or implement programs with Indigenous communities is considered an asset to this role.
- Superior research and writing skills, with a demonstrated ability to digest complex concepts, examine and incorporate diverse perspectives, and summarize key insights effectively for a range of target audiences.
- Ability to prepare effective presentations, and to develop and tailor communications products and key messages for specific target audiences.
- Self-motivated and an ability to work independently and collaboratively within a cross-functional team structure while managing tight project timelines.
- Strong technology skills, including MS Office 365 Suite, SharePoint and various videoconferencing platforms.
- Fluency in written and spoken English and French.
