- The Pathways to Education Program is a national program, operating in 21 communities across Canada and provides a comprehensive set of academic, social, financial, and individual supports to youth. The Vancouver program location is part of a place-based collective impact initiative, the Our Place Graduation Strategy. The Surrey program location holds strong partnerships with the local schools and school district to deliver the program.

**Opportunity**

**Responsibilities**
- **1 to 1 Case Management**:

- Develop plans in collaboration with youth and appropriate adults (i.e., Parents, guardians, teachers & other school staff, community partners) to address the educational needs/goals of individual youth.
- Monitor and support youth progress, engagement and participation in the program and liaise with program staff.
- Engage with families and facilitate their involvement in the educational goals and plans for youth in the program.
- Provide advocacy and support to assist youth access information and support services.
- **Develop **supportive and engaging relationships with youth**:

- Work with youth to identify goals, strengths, issues, and students concerns, while supporting their participation in tutoring, mentoring, school, and community activities
- **Support the design, development, and facilitation of tutoring and mentoring**:

- Support youth to fully engage in tutoring and mentoring programs.
- Provide support and mentorship to volunteers to engage with youth with effective tutoring and mentoring techniques.
- Develop diverse resources that address specific learning styles, abilities, and needs.

**Dimensions of Work**
- The primary interface is directly with youth, volunteers, and colleagues in the Pathways program.
- Direct reporting relationship to Associate Manager
- Coordination and sharing information with relevant programs, schools, families, and community staff.

**Work Conditions**
- Hours - early afternoon into evening time and occasional weekends (regular workdays may include 11-7 PM, 12-8 PM).
- Flexibility is required as there may be a need for earlier or later hours depending upon circumstances to offer support to young people at key times.
- Travel between multiple sites in the designated community

**Qualifications**
- Post-secondary degree in education, Social Work, Psychology, or Child and youth Care diploma. Plus 2 years’ experience working with diverse youth populations, or a combination of related education and work experience with youth.

**Additional Assets**
- Criminal records check including the vulnerable sector.
- Standard first aid and CPR (training provided if needed)
- Experience working with youth and families in Strathcona and the Downtown Eastside
- Experience providing 1-to-1 case management in an educational context.
- Experience working in programs supporting the educational success for youth in this community.
- Experience and/or knowledge of working with the public school system (grade 7 -12)
- Specific training and/or experience with youth with special needs or new language learners
- Experience working with and guiding volunteers.
- Experience facilitation of groups
- Knowledge of community and social services
- Understanding of impact of racism and oppression
- Understanding of impact of settlement journey
