About Youth Hoops Basketball Academy:
Youth Hoops Basketball Academy is a premier child and youth development program focused on fostering the love of basketball and solid fundamentals in young athletes while promoting leadership, teamwork, and personal growth. Located in Edmonton, we offer Fall, Winter, and Spring sessions; with Summer basketball camps for children and teens. Our mission is to provide a supportive, inclusive environment where participants can develop their basketball skills, build confidence, and grow as individuals. Through structured coaching, community-building, and consistent encouragement, Youth Hoops Academy helps shape the leaders of tomorrow both on and off the court.
Position Overview:
Key Responsibilities:
- Create and manage coaching schedules for Fall, Winter, and Summer sessions.
- Communicate with coaches to determine availability and assign sessions accordingly.
- Provide input on the basketball curriculum that the programs are based on, ensuring alignment with developmental goals.
- Interact in person with coaches, participants, and guardians to ensure program satisfaction.
- Address and solve concerns as they arise, maintaining clear communication with all parties involved.
- Provide program updates to coaches and parents as needed.
- Debrief with coaches after each session, offering feedback and encouragement to improve program quality and coaching effectiveness.
- Lead recruitment and retention efforts for qualified coaching staff.
- Promote the Academy’s programs and partnerships through various channels including word of mouth, social media, and in-person networking.
- Serve as a positive role model for participants, consistently encouraging their growth and involvement.
- Ensure payroll is accurately reviewed and processed in a timely manner to compensate coaches each month.
- Consult regularly with leadership to share staff and participant feedback, and discuss potential program improvements.
- Organize and participate in both virtual and in-person meetings with the leadership team to align on the organization’s strategic direction.
- Provide leadership and input to help expand the business and ensure the success of a growing startup.
- Maintain a positive, professional demeanor in all interactions.
- Stay organized, especially during high-stress situations, and ensure smooth operation of all sessions.
- Stand for long periods of time during program activities.
- Successfully pass a criminal record and child intervention check.
Qualifications. ONLY APPLY IF YOU HAVE:
- Prior basketball/sport knowledge, with a minimum of high school playing experience.
- Previous experience in managing a team or program, preferably within a sports or youth development setting.
- Experience working with startups and a strong desire to help expand the organization.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships.
- Passionate about youth sports and mentoring young athletes.
- Experience with payroll processing is a plus.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends during session times.
- Must have reliable transportation.
