**Position Overview**
**Residence Experience** in the **Ancillary Services** is currently seeking a Full-time Regular **Manager, Residence Life**.
Reporting to the Director, Residence Services, the Manager, Residence Life is responsible for the administration of the residence life program for approximately 2,800 undergraduate and graduate students and 250 students with families. The Manager, Residence Life is responsible for leading and managing a team of residence life staff to create residential environments that support and engage students while promoting leadership and engagement.
Strong collaboration, negotiation and partnership building skills are essential to create a holistic approach towards resident student retention, academic success, and student connection that supports the University's academic plan.
The Manager serves in an expert leadership role on matters on residence life, including experience and expertise in student at risk, adjudication of residence community standards violation, and expertise in student development theory and learning outcomes to create a living-learning environment for students in residence
Due to the nature of Residence Life operations, some early morning, late evening, overnight, weekend and holiday work is required. The Manager, Residence Life participates in the On-call rotation with other Managers in Residence & Ancillary Services. During On-call, this position often deals with highly complex student issues that require discretionary decision-making which impacts the University departments, students, staff and the reputation of the University. This position often works closely with the other Managers in Residence Services, Residence Life Coordinators, Community Ambassadors and other residence units and ancillary departments.
**Position Description**
**Summary of Key Responsibilities** (job functions include but are not limited to):
Leadership:
- Supervise the RLC team through weekly meetings and daily contact as required to maintain a clear and current understanding of student issues in all buildings and to encourage and assist in pro-active initiatives through programming, community meetings and one-one student contact. Administer the evaluation process of the RLCs through formal written and verbal evaluation and feedback.
- Performance management within a unionized environment.
- Oversee the selection, training, supervision and evaluation of Community Ambassadors, Senior Community Ambassadors, Residence Life Coordinators and various student leader and volunteer positions in Residence Life.
- Review residence life unit results from the residence assessment surveys and ensure that all relevant parties are informed of concerns and successes. Implement appropriate responses, changes and updates as required by student input.
- Provide leadership development opportunities for Residence Leadership Organizations, and boards through training workshops and ongoing advisement.
- Respond to inquiries from parents within the bounds of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and initiate parental contact when appropriate in regards to student issues.
- Be available to meet with students individually and in groups, as requested to respond to questions and concerns.
- Develop and deliver a training program for the Residence Life Coordinator team that expands their knowledge of residence issues and student development theory and challenges them to provide timely and relevant training to the Community Ambassadors.
- Provide leadership development opportunities for Residence Leadership Organizations, and boards through training workshops and ongoing advisement.
Program Planning:
- Strategically plans and directs activities of the residence life program to ensure the needs of all students are being met including all undergraduate, graduate, and international students.
- Identify best practices and implement strategies (based on development theories and research) to assure full student participation and engagement in residential living.
- Strategically assesses the student experience and responds through a residential education curriculum that reflects current student population needs, and strategically plans for continuous improvement.
- Establishes Residence Life unit objectives, ensures the alignment of these initiatives with the University strategic plan, academic plan and eyes high strategy.
- Remains up to date on changing student needs, residence life trends in the post-secondary sector, and changes to University policies and procedures.
Program Management:
- Develop, manage and coordinate programs, activities and projects which help students to be academically successful; ensuring residence life practices are based on current and relevant research (student development and learning theories); building relationships with faculty members to explore opportunities to be involved in residence.
