**Organizational Summary**

The Pacific Salmon Foundation (PSF) is salmon first, salmon always. We harness the passion and power of people to save and restore Pacific salmon in B.C. and the Yukon. And, we never go it alone, working with Indigenous partners, streamkeepers, government agencies and fellow ENGO’s, the PSF undertakes research, restoration initiatives and leadership in convening all those willing to help recover Pacific salmon. As People for Salmon, we’re here to help ensure sustainable populations of Pacific salmon for generations to come.

**Position Overview**

The Manager, Government and Policy will play a vital role in serving as PSF’s primary liaison between our entity and government bodies (Crown, Indigenous, and Municipal). The role will navigate the complex landscape of governmental policies, regulations, and legislative processes to advocate for policies, strategies and outcomes aligned with the conservation needs of Pacific salmon and PSF’s objectives and strategic plan. The Manager, Government and Policy’s analytical and strategic skills will be crucial in researching, analyzing, and understanding policies that align with PSF research and impact areas for salmon recovery, resilience, and systems transformation. The GPL will establish and maintain relationships with government officials, agencies, and other stakeholders, while advocating for favorable policies in line with PSF’s mission and goals.

**Roles and Responsibilities**

The Manager, Government and Policy’s key responsibilities include:

- Acting as a trusted liaison between PSF and government entities and advocating for policies that support PSF’s mission and objectives.
- Conducting in-depth research and analysis of relevant government operations, policies, legislation, and regulations, providing strategic insights and recommendations to Senior Management.
- Establishing and maintaining robust relationships with government officials, agencies, and stakeholders to ensure effective communication, collaboration, and representation of PSF’s interests at all governmental levels.
- Developing and implementing strategic advocacy and communication plans to promote policies, ideas, and solutions derived from PSF research and perspectives; engaging with government officials; policymakers; drafting policy briefs and participating in public policy forums.
- Monitoring and analyzing legislative developments, policy proposals, and political events impacting PSF, providing regular updates and analysis to the internal team.
- Maintaining an ongoing understanding of major salmon management issues and outcomes. For example, pre-season, in-season and post season salmon management planning, and other issues with similar relevance.
- Collaborating with the Management and Communications teams to ensure cohesive messaging and communication strategies that align with policy objectives and enhance PSF’s public image.
- Collaborating with PSF’s program leaders to support knowledge translation and implementation of recommendations from research findings into policy or mitigative action
- Coordinating with external stakeholders, including industry associations, advocacy groups, and coalitions, to build alliances and partnerships that advance PSF’s policy goals.
- Working cross-functionally to coordinate policy initiatives and strategies across various programs and departments, ensuring seamless integration and implementation of policy-related activities.
- Preparing comprehensive reports, briefings, and presentations on government policy issues, advocacy efforts, and outcomes to inform decision-making and demonstrate the impact of PSF’s policy and government relations activities.
- Other duties as assigned.

**Reporting and Supervision**

Reporting to the VP, Communications, Development, and Marketing, the Manager, Government and Policy is responsible for undertaking all work identified by their manager and leadership to support organizational communications strategies.

**Qualifications**
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Public Policy, Government Relations, Political Science, Law, International Relations, Biology, Natural Resources or a related field. A minimum of 5+ years of experience working in Policy development, government relations or a similar role.
- Demonstrated understanding of government policies, regulations, and legislative processes, with a strong ability to analyze and interpret complex policy issues. An understanding of the governance context relevant to Pacific salmon is a significant asset.
- Proven experience in advocacy and relationship-building with government officials, agencies, and stakeholders, fostering effective communication and collaboration.
