**Duties**:
Implement international cooperation projects and Global Engagement activities, under the supervision of the Manager, Global Engagement. The International Projects Officer has extensive contact with international partners, VIU faculty and staff, and other VIU departments. The workload is non-repetitive and unique in nature. The use of initiative, judgment and tact is crucial to resolve routine and emergent issues and to coordinate activities in a complex and ever-changing global environment.

Duties include:

- Plan and execute international project activities and events (on-campus, virtual and abroad), including support to international cooperation partners in curriculum development, training, and capacity building activities
- Coordinate logistics for VIU faculty and staff traveling abroad on international cooperation projects, and for international cooperation partners visiting VIU
- Manage and maintain project files, and prepare reports on project activities for internal and external audiences
- Develop and update project materials, including communications and promotional products and Global Engagement website
- Provide research support for new international project development
- Prepare financial reports to project funders. Process financial transactions. Manage and maintain project financial documentation, both electronically and in hard copy, to satisfy audit requirements. Prepare documentation to facilitate future audits. Communicate with finance staff and other VIU departments to ensure that VIUs internal procedures are followed in an accurate and timely manner
- Support planning and implementation of on-campus and community-based Global Engagement events and activities (Global Citizens Week, WorldVIU Days, VIU-WUSC (World University Service of Canada) Student Refugee Program).
- Provide administrative support to other Global Engagement activities
- Support student work-ops and volunteers

**Required Qualifications**:
Bachelors' degree from an appropriately accredited institution. Minimum two years recent and relevant experience in project implementation, preferably in an international development or community development setting. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Strong organizational and critical thinking skills with the ability to switch between detailed tasks quickly with demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated proficiency in budget development, tracking and reconciliation.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment, tact and diplomacy, problem solving skills, and communication skills (written and verbal).
- Demonstrated understanding of project management.
- Effective in interacting with a variety of stakeholders from diverse cultural and academic backgrounds and learning styles.
- Senior level proficiency in MS Office Suite programs, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Demonstrated skills in developing and maintaining systems and procedures. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks. Ability to set up meetings, take minutes and work independently. Ability to follow directions from many sources and use initiative when needed and appropriate. Flexibility in managing workload

**Preferred Qualifications**:
Experience working with contracts. Experience living or working in the Global South. Demonstrated knowledge of Results Based Management. Demonstrated knowledge of gender equality/mainstreaming and sustainable development. Knowledge of VIU programs and systems (e.g., Financial Information System, Student Record System).
