**OPTOMETRIC ASSISTANT**

**Part Time (Temporary)**

**Maternity Leave Coverage until June 1, 2024**

**Edmonton, Alberta**

**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Preliminary screening tests
- Ophthalmology/specialist referrals - scan, upload, track
- Interpret prescriptions.
- Measure the patients eye size, temple length, vertex distance, pupillary distance, and optical centers of eyes using measuring devices for the purposes of lenses and frames.
- Fit customers with the appropriate frames.
- Minor repairs, such as, nose piece adjustments or replacements, lens changes from frame to frame, arm adjustments and screw replacements.
- Recommend specific lenses, lens coatings, and frames.
- Assist customers with lens and frame types according to style, color, and to ensure that they are proportionally correct with facial and eye measurements.
- Promote and educate patients with eye health.
- Sell goods such as sunglasses, contact lenses, eye glass frames.
- Reception duties: Scheduling appointments, confirming patient eligibility, answering, and directing calls.
- Bill 3rd party, and or insurance companies for payments.
- Financial Duties; A/R, Credit Card reconciliation, Cash, Debit, Credit Payments, Petty cash.
- Inventory Control: Sales and work order inventory
- Provide excellent customer service.
- Must be available to travel as needed.
- Other duties as required.

**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**:

- Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be organized and have good time management skills.
- Must be able to work independently; take initiative when necessary and be a team player.
- Ability to provide enthusiastic and concise communication to meet and exceed customer expectations.

**Education and Experience**:

- Certified Optometric Assistant and or Diploma in Optical Sciences or/ Office Administration certificate or experience.
- Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office programs such as Excel and Word.
- At least 1 - 2 years of prior optician/office administration experience
- Proof of education and or training
