**What can I expect to do in this role?**

In this role, you will be responsible for receiving, monitoring and accessing incoming emergency calls, and take or expedite the required action in accordance with Service procedures.

This is a dynamic work environment. As a Full-time 911 Communications Operator, you will:

- Receiving and processing 9-1-1- police, fire and ambulance calls for service.
- Determining the complexity of calls for service, selects channels and dispatching police.
- Monitoring all radio channels including Tactical channel and equipment associated with dispatch.
- Receiving and processing business call inquiries.
- Contacting additional emergency services pertaining to calls for service.
- Accessing ICAD, retrieving and entering data for service, monitoring police activity.
- Performing CPIC/NICHE checks assist for officer’s safety.
- Notifying Suspension Control Centre for service of suspensions.
- Updating and amending BOLO.
- Entering/removing CPIC data pertaining to charged persons, stolen/recovered vehicles, missing/located persons, warrants executed and DVSIP entries.
- Retrieving, recording, distributing CPIC messages, Provincial and Zone Alerts for Police Service staff.
- Performing CPIC queries, Zone Alerts and Provincial Alerts for officers and Police Service Staff.
- Instigating 9-1-1 emergency functions through Bell Telephone to determine the caller, residence and nature of call.
- Operating TTY telephone for the hearing impaired.
- Controlling and operating the security doors and Police Service alarm systems. Viewing monitors used for security of building, property and prisoner cells.
- Maintaining hard copy bulletin boards and records necessary information for wrecker calls, trespass books, fingerprint dates, EARS books, bears, funeral, coroner list for call outs.
- Reporting major and unusual incidents to the Duty Staff Sergeant as soon as possible and maintain control of the situation under the direction of the Staff Sergeant.
- Notifying proper authority concerning any equipment failure.
- Maintaining familiarity with Directives, Policies and other Police Service correspondence.
- Attending training courses as required.
- Training new employees in Communications.
- Retrieving and providing information on a need to know basis to other agencies such as Customs, Immigration and other police agencies.
- Performing any other duties as assigned by supervisor.

**How Do I Qualify?**

Mandatory:

- Have successful completion of grade 12 or equivalent.
- Must be available to work shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to hear and readily relay information accurately with high attention to detail, while operating various methods of communication equipment (Computer aided Dispatch, TTY portable radios, telephones) despite constant interruptions and distractions.
- Experience in emergency response, and/or high-stress call centre environments is preferred.

**Conditions of Employment**
- Must successfully pass the intensive training program and six (6) month probationary period.
- Anticipated start date of first training program is early 2024.
