JOB SUMMARY

To participate in an exciting research program at the BC Children's Hospital Research Institute site for the CHILD cohort Study in the Turvey lab. The incumbent will work in a dynamic, collegial environment dedicated to enhancing the health of children.

The individual should be self-motivated and should be able to perform tasks with mínimal supervision after receiving appropriate training. The individual should be able to work as a collaborative team member to achieve sample collection goals, and must be willing to learn new techniques. The employee is required to have a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as required.

ORGANIZATIONAL STATUS

The individual will report to and receive general guidance from the Principal Investigator and the Clinical Research Coordinator, as well as interacting with other research technicians, research nurses, laboratory and clerical staff.

DUTIES PERFORMED

**Study Clinic Visits**:
Responsible for the operational set up and maintenance of clinic equipment and maintains inventory of clinic supplies.

Assists in coordinating clinic visits by preparing source and study documents, and scheduling visits with families.

Completes recruitment, re-consenting/assenting and study questionnaires with participants.

Assists the principal investigator and/or research coordinator in clinic with study procedures such as spirometry, body measurements, allergen testing, pulse wave velocity testing, and sample collection such as nasal swabs and phlebotomy.

Comfortable in dealing with a variety of children in a clinical setting.

**Laboratory work**:
Collects, processes, and organizes samples from study visits.

Performs tasks such as preparation, freezing / storing, shipping and aliquoting biological samples (including blood).

**Study Database maintenance and organization**:
Assists the study coordinator in maintaining and creating the study database.

Collects and inputs data into REDCap, Open Specimen, and other relevant software solutions.

Identifies incomplete data collection to the PI or Clinical Research Coordinator.

**Other duties**:
Participates in weekly team meetings.

Assists with writing reports, presenting results at lab meetings as well as national and international meetings (as appropriate).

Carries out any other related duties as required in keeping with the qualifications and requirements of positions in this category.

CONSEQUENCE OF ERROR

The incumbent is required to conduct the research activities in an ethical manner. Study data must be reliably and accurately recorded. Strict confidentiality of all study participants must be adhered to.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

The Clinical Research Coordinator and PI will provide close supervision and training during the initial period of employment while techniques are learned. Once training is complete the individual should be able to work with basic supervision or on own initiative, although help will always be available for problem solving and guidance.

SUPERVISION GIVEN

May be involved in training new personnel in established techniques.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school graduation, some additional training in a related field and a minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
