Job Summary

The Officer, Community Relations is responsible for responding to inquiries from members of the public and triaging issues with colleagues internally. The position requires one network within the Stakeholder Relations team as well as with colleagues across many functions within CN. The role investigates and researches incoming requests, while interacting with internal stakeholders, and responds to inquirers professionally and in a timely manner.

Main Responsibilities
Community and Stakeholder Engagement
- Provide accurate responses to external stakeholder requests
- Act as a liaison between members of the public and internal stakeholders within CN
- Ensure timely follow-ups of requests are met

Update Digital Engagement Tool
- Log and record all incoming requests within the Public Inquiry Line's database
- Run reports and extract records for statistical and investigative purposes upon request
- Provide guidance and recommendations on ways to improve the digital tools and the uses of tools

Support Public and Governmental Affairs Function
- Prioritize and report urgent matters to members of the Public Affairs senior management
- Monitor emerging threats to CN's reputation that could escalate to elected officials or media and inform Public Affairs (PA) leads and Media Manager in a timely fashion
- Participate in regular meetings to share knowledge on high-priority cases and flag them to the appropriate PA leads

Working Conditions

The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The incumbent must be available to work evenings, when necessary. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and stress.

**Requirements**:
Experience

Public Relations
- Between 2 to 5 years of experience in a similar role working with members of the public

Education/Certification/Designation
- High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED)
- College Diploma in Communication or Public Relations*
- Any designation for these above would be considered as an asset

Technical Skills/Knowledge
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
- Ability to judge the urgency of incoming requests and prioritize
- Knowledge of project and time management best practices
- Fluently bilingual both written and verbal (English, French)*
- Knowledge of Geographic Information System (GIS)*
- Any knowledge for any of the above would be considered as an asset
