About the Role:
As the Program Facilitator & Assistant, you will play an integral role in the facilitation of programming, workshops, events, and presentations around gender-based violence awareness and prevention with newcomers of all ages as well as professional development training for service providers. This position will strategically collaborate and maintain relationships with key client groups, community agencies and other stakeholders. This position includes administrative and logístical tasks and promotional outreach to support the program goals and ongoing work.
In this role, you will:
Working with Newcomers around Gender-Based Violence Prevention
- Develop and facilitate culturally sensitive and trauma-informed presentations, workshops, and programs for newcomer clients of all ages to raise awareness on: GBV and contributing factors, prevention themes and supports and services.
- Facilitate gender-inclusive client programs and provide gender specific programs to women and girls.
- Recruit, organize and deliver pre-made workshops and information sessions regularly on gender-based violence, laws, rights and supports for newcomer clients.
- Create opportunities where newcomers can engage in sharing their own wisdom, skills, and ideas to be part of prevention and awareness.
- Outreach and recruitment of newcomer clients for programming, workshops, and events.
- Collaborate across YMCA programs to deliver place-based programming to meet newcomer clients needs.
- Design and create promotional materials in the form of posters, videos, and social media posts to recruit participants.
- Training Service Providers in Intercultural Approaches to GBV with newcomer communities
- Co-Facilitate workshops and presentations for service providers to develop their capacity and understanding on working with newcomers around gender-based violence prevention.
- Outreach and network with community partners and relevant agencies and maintain relationships of key stakeholders.
- Organize the logistics of presentations and programs including outreach, registration, purchasing and organizing of supplies, setting up and clean up of programs/workshops.
- Source current resources and information about events, networks, campaigns, and issues related to gender-based violence prevention.
Education and Skills Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of Gender-Based Violence, prevention, and best practices.
- Lived experience as a newcomer who can bring their wisdom, experience and knowledge to this position or experience working directly with newcomers.
- Speaking other languages considered a strong asset (Arabic is a strong asset)
- Understanding of 2SLGBTQIA+ identities and experience and working around creating safer and more inclusive spaces.
- Knowledge in applying: Trauma informed, anti-racist and anti oppressive practices.
- Facilitation experience of group programs or presentations with multiple types of stakeholders including newcomers, youth, adults, and service providers.
- Experience in developing participatory programming for groups of youth and/or adults.
- Strong cross-cultural verbal/written communication and presentation skills.
- Intermediate to advanced skills in using Microsoft Office, CANVA, social media, ZOOM and/or video conferencing platforms
