Summary:
Within the context of a client and family centred model of care and, in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Providence Health Care, the person promotes a safe, respectful, and civil working environment for patients, residents, families, visitors and staff.
Reporting to the Corporate Director, Clinical Supplies and Equipment, the Manager, Medical Equipment and Supplies is responsible for creating critical linkages and providing operational leadership and management of equipment and supplies services in a complex health care environment. The Manager’s primary focus is the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of medical equipment and supplies within a complex, multi-site environment in addition to the coordination of activities surrounding inventory management. The Manager, Medical Equipment and Supplies provides leadership for inventory and equipment contracting and implementation, which includes working with vendors, funding agencies and participating in regional and provincial committees inclusive of consistently working directly with PHSA supply chain, national group purchasing organizations and suppliers.
The Manager, Medical Equipment and Supplies is responsible for ensuring that all products entering clinical areas meet criteria to prioritize investment of resources including a preliminary product and costing assessment to inform whether to further engage in the process of clinical evaluation, economic assessment and financial approval. The Manager will also provide business terms for vendors to meet, initiating purchase and facilitating in conversations relating to planning, implementation and supporting sustainment of equipment, supplies and services. The Manager, Medical Equipment and Supplies is accountable for monitoring a budget, including management of short and long-term planning of capital equipment in addition to instrument purchasing and supply contract management and the preparation of briefing notes and other documentation to inform decisions. The Manager will continually update and develop service processes by identifying opportunities and priorities for innovation and development of new processes, restructuring to ensure service delivery is provided in a cost effective manner. In addition to leading a team, the Manager works as a team player with colleagues and co-workers and in collaboration with key internal and external partners to achieve excellence in client and family centred care, education and research environment.
Qualifications / Skills and Education:

Baccalaureate (Masters Degree preferred) in Nursing supplemented with leadership and business management courses plus seven (7) years' recent, related clinical and progressive leadership experience, including direct supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives.
Skills and Abilities
- Comprehensive knowledge of clinical and system processes, contract management, workflows, clinical services delivery and metrics, and of the applicable standards of practice and guidelines for clinical practitioners.
- Ability to draw on strong clinical background and working knowledge of clinical products and how products are used across the organization as part of clinical practice.
- Ability to draw on financial background to develop a robust framework for economic evaluation of clinical products that will impact clinical practice, contract compliance and program budgets.
- Ability to prioritize and quickly draw others together to negotiate unforeseen barriers and make adjustments to achieve common goals.
- Demonstrated ability to respond to unexpected change, review information, build a team, solicit feedback, make decisions, action a plan and lead a team.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skill in implementing evidence-based practice in a clinical setting and ability to introduce clinical and policy change to designated program area(s).
